Great tut. Brilliant authors.

Welcome to the funny farm, graphix dx. Is that what you were looking for or are you trying to remove a background from a scanned image ?
If so, that`s a whole different ball `o wax. Best way to do that kinda depends on the image. A little more info, if you can ?

I've got a similar problem that fits into the "trying to remove a background from a scanned image" corner:

This image should have a background of a lighter yellow (#ffee00) to fit the web page's background color, not of that yellow it has in the scan. How would I change the background color without ruining the shadows and the text? I'm so very new to Photoshop, and just can't seem to find the right tools...

Kuckus you should give selective color a try (Image => Adjust => Selective Color). Choose the yellow scheme from the dropdown menu and knock up the black level (relative values).

You should also have a look at the replace color function. Go with a high fuzziness and just sample the yellow color with the color sampler. Adjust the lightness level.
Fiddle around with stuff.

cheers

<edit- "lighter yellow". Ups my bad. Go for a lower black value. -edit>

Thanks PunisherOlsen, that's exactly what I've been looking for, and it worked perfectly well. I'm learning something new every day, that's great!
