I was wondering if anyone would have any tips on how to make something look magnified? I have a folder with a magnifying glass over one section and need it to look magnifyed.

I have tried to use the "Spherize" but that just warps it too much.

You can check out some examples of what I am doing here.

Thanks in advance.

Did you try playing with the settings on spherize? You should be able to bump it down so it barely distorts it at all.

[edit] Nope, that doesn't do a damn thing...

So I just drew my folder as a path and then played with the bump in it a bit till I got it right.....

krets: yeah I tried all kind of different settings and yet it either didn't do enough or it did it way too much.

The first two I used the spherize and the others I just cut out that section and then just scaled it.

Well, here's something, I'm sure it can be adapted to PS...

I know you didnt ask but if you want an opinion on the best logo, I think the first one is, but you the orange ".com" doesnt suit IMHO.

I really think tinkering with spherize is the best you could do, but because the line underneath is too centered, maybe thats why spherize on full would look dodgy, and a little spherize would do nothing.

maybe to make it kinda cool, put a texture on the folder behind the glass, so it will be noticably spherized, and it would make it more real or something, that when zoomed you can see the paperness .. maybe ..

I thought spherize was more to give it that refracted look? Which might be necessary because the highlight you gave the glass makes it look like it has curvature.

I'm not sure if you have enough detail in that area to create the illusion of magnification effectivly. You might want to creatring a copy of the folder layer and scaling it up then put a mask on it and move it a bit up an left.

Hew: I like the first one too, just a bummer the guy that I am doing it for likes the next to the last one best. Good thing it will never go to print, as far as I know anyway.

I found an action for this effect at screamdesign. I am going try it out tonight and see what happens. I will post another copy if it turns out OK so you cool people can give me some more of that groovy feedback.

Thanks for all the help.

How about this ?

Make a selection of the glass
transform it to 130 % or so
reselect the glass selection, inverse it
clear

You know, magnify it...

What DB said. That's basically how I did this sig, but the Spherize I used kind of over powers the Transform.

I tried something out - the only way i can get it to look slightly magnified is by lifting it up one pixel and to the left one pixel (or a couple

heres the psd (zip format - 42k)
and the image below is what i came up with

I try to take just one day at a time but lately several days have attacked me at once !

Hey, now that is what I'm talking about. Sometimes I just need someone to explain to me in laymens terms, what it is that I should look for in doing this shit.

Thanks DB and Minkies and all the others. I think that this is exactly what I needed. Like DB said "you know Magnify it!" Sometimes I just feel silly.
