the idea is right, but it looks unfinished to me.

The sword looks out of proportion? Handle too small? also needs more detail.

Not gonna comment on the fire stuff, cos I couldnt do better myself.

The rest just looks like it needs more details and finishing.

Overall I like cept for what I mentioned above ~Vp!~

thanks for the input vp.
yeah, it definitely needs more detail.
but im afraid that after a while some parts dont fit together anymore.
for example the fire is kinda blurry and unsharp and then the sword so near... would look kinda out of place.
hmmm. gotta work harder. maybe i can use a new mask for the fire.
thanks again.

Nice fire, but what's it a logo for?

What is it meant to depict?

Why is it animated? Usually 'Logos' are fairly simple iconic images then animation is added for multimedia capable mediums if applicable, again coming back to 'what is it a logo for?'...

Although I did browse through the other images you had for the logo and I liked the simple 'S1' only logo's better.

Maybe starting with something that's not animated, playing with fonts, size, composition and stuff then animate the fire once you have a good solid base to work from.

Just my thoughts.

If you keep the animation, you need the fire to be reflected from the sword blade...I think that would go a long way to giving it a realistic feel. Maybe animating the sword, so that it slowly turns?

drac, the guy wants it that way - i do it that way!
(ok, the animation is just special effects. i can stop it of course, but i like it!)

ws, yes i also thought about reflection a little. but ca you imagine how difficult that is? especially animated?
the turning sword is a good diea too!

thanks!

Well. the reflection isn't that hard, but the turning sword...that is much harder. And yes, it is a lot of hard work...but it would be well worth the effort.

It looks like the "S" is right up against the sword and the "1" isn't. It doesn't look real symetrical to me which is thowing me off. Actually, I think there is "too" much detail in it right now. I tend to agree with Dracusis. But then again this is coming from someone who has only done a handful of logos.

In your fire mask, I think you need to widen the flame shapes. now they're 7 pixels wide or so, more would be better, IMHO.

Maybe you could make the full logo in fire...
If you want to make the whole logo burn, you basically need a mask in the right shape, like this:

mahjqa, this is the mask im using:

i think i did it with the smudge or so. very same like you explained it back then in your fire tute.
but your version is very interesting too!
maybe i give it a try later tonight.

thanks a lot!

Uhh...Ok, newbie question...I got the mask part, but how do I actually create that fire? I tried a few things, but I feel it's not the way to do it.

'course you'll need to unzip them.. and if you've got any questions about them you might want to read

mahjqa, i tried your mask, but i like the old version better somehow.
i think with your mask i should also make a new seamless-layer which was difficult enough already for the old one.

dracusis, i sent you a note at DA too. but im referring to the cool detailed scroll you made once. can you give me some tips on detailing techniques you used?

No its just the gif colors, remember I had to optimize for file size! Also I am retarded what does IMO mean? And I like my fire grainy, unless you mean the transparency I haven't really the time to fix it because I think it looks fine as it is.

IMO = in my opinion.
how much colors did you use?
i mean it just looks a bit too bright. fire has naturally more red tones.

Well now IMHO I think both of those are nice but so hard edged, thats why I used hard light instead of color burn to give a much more soft effect on the fire, maybe you can go through them and try that.
