I finally found the difference between HSL and HSV. Oddly enough, I also found out that HLS and HSL are used interchangably.

Colour in Computer Graphics

I doubt it will change which you use and all that, but at least now you know the technical difference in their models.

In a quick search, I couldn't find anything technically specific for HSB. I suspect the HSB model is the same as HSV rather than HSL/HLS.

Actually, the page you linked says HSV is 'sometimes also referred to as HSB'

B and V are Brightness and Value, and are usually interchangable in color discussions.

Wow! That page, just through it's diagrams, clarified and confirmed so much about color to me!

I was thinking about adding another discussion to Tech-Slop when I came across the above link.

Custom Colours

There it is. Have at it folks, and feel free to gab back with your thoughts. I think later tonight I'm going to change the title to "Picking Colours".

All I need is a painless process to ColorSync my setup Computer Monitor/Scanner/Printer. I had to do some work for a biologist scanning in slides and printing proofs and she wanted near exact colors during the whole process(understandable). What a nightmare!

I agree. Some of the colors in the HSB color picker look a bit muddy. Hard to work with.

Wow WJ. Nice Slop indeed.

I'll definatly start creating pallet's like that for my painting work. I've tried to use swatches but the swatch interface it just such a prick to work with.

Although, I think the way I'd go would be to create a pallet for the part of the image I'm working on, wack them into a new layer group as I go so I can come back to them later. Small range custom pallets for specific areas like hair, skin tones, x material, y material ect ect. Also, if your like me and you find it a little hard to paint in greys then colour later you could have a pallet for your inital blocking colours.

Yeah! cool stuff. Very cool!... You rock!

Glad you like it so much, Drac. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy knowing that my documented journeys are helping someone discover their own flavor of things. I couldn't tell you how many PSD files I have with quick little colour smears in them.

I really wish I could remember who first told me about the Alt Eyedropper trick. It's this little trick is what really sent me in this direction. I think it was Izzay, but I'm not sure.

I'm glad I've got the Asylum to put the seeds of good thngs in my head.

Picking Colours

I changed the name to Picking Colours (I'm too lazy to edit my above post). I added a few things at the bottom and am even offering a sleazy little download. I do have a few more quick things to add, perhaps a bit more editing, but they will have to wait.

*looks up from a rather jucy pear* ummm... I don't think that was me. It is a really useful trick tho.

MMM... I see you have some new additions to Tech Slop! Hey, that is amazing.

I have a loose memory of the phrase "grabbing colour values right form the canvas" being mentiond with the name "Weadz" in it somewhere.... Don't remember anything about the "Alt" key but it'd be typical for my brain to drop out the key element of a sentance. Oooh look! Really bad pun back there!.... darn. I need sleep. It's almost midday ~again~.

Ohh look... I found an old box of dodgy computer games in the shead...

Bah! Who need sleep when you have nostalgia!
