I want you guys to know that I have been reading the posts and the archives and I have learned so much!!! I really appreciate you for all your sharing.
One thing I didn't find out is how to fade a graphic. I see it all the time on the net in headers. The graphic kind of fades away like a gradient to transparent. Do you know what I mean. I don't have an example right to hand. Is there some place in Photoshop to do a graphic gradient to transparent? I have version 7, just got it, upgraded from 5.5.
Thanks a lot,
Pam

Use the biggest, softess eraser brush and erase part of the graphic...

...or if you don't wan't to screw up the graphic, make a new layer on top of it and airbrush it the color of the background of your image.

With the marquee tool, make a rough selection around the part you want to keep.
Type Q ( to enter quick mask mode)
Go filter>>Blur>>Gaussian Blur. Blur to taste. ( You can see the selection you`ll end up with)
Type Q ( to exit quick mask mode )
Click the *add a mask * button at the bottom of the layers pallette.

I usually prefer using the gradient tool to make this sort of selection, since it allows for more precision. By setting the mode to "minimum", and making multiple gradients from white to black (white being the part you want to keep), you can square off an area. Do that in quickmask mode or a channel to make the selection.

I tend to do it in slimes fashion. Make the gradient layer select the gradient and then invert the selection either deleting on the layer I want it to affect or working with the layer mask.
