With the marquee tool, make a rough selection around the part you want to keep. |

I usually prefer using the gradient tool to make this sort of selection, since it allows for more precision. By setting the mode to "minimum", and making multiple gradients from white to black (white being the part you want to keep), you can square off an area. Do that in quickmask mode or a channel to make the selection. |
