Preserved Topic: Speed Painting - Monsters

Here are the rules:

1. You have approximately 30 minutes (try to limit differences by 10 mins, give or take) to do a sketch/painting/model, digital or traditional of the supplied topic.
2. Time dedicated to scanning, uploading, saving, etc, is NOT counted towards the time it takes you to do your entry. Just the time you spent creating it.
3. You can submit as many entries as you want.
4. Much like the monthly sig competitions, the previous winner decides the next topic and the next winner of said topic. (For this topic we'll just have a vote or something).
5. Have fun! Obviously there's no way to tell how long you *actually* spent making the image, so this thing runs on an honor system.

As the subject says, the topic is Monsters, in spirit of Halloween Get to it!

seeing a lot of '5 minutes' or '10 minutes' and what not.

seem rather counterproductive to me....the point is to do the best image in the time alotted, not to do the fastest possible image. Right?

I mean....you hit a point where maybe you can't do any more without exceeding the time limit - whihc is why mine ended at 20-25 minutes. But.......5? 10?

Put a little more into guys!

To be perfectly honest with you Jamie (and I don't intend on ruining this thread). I did those at around 2 in the morning and when I woke up I had no fucking clue where they came from. It took my like a couple minutes to recap what happened before I went to sleep and I remember being really tired and ending the silverglade fast. Oh well I'll enter again soon I guess.

thanks dl. That means alot coming from an artist whose abilities and opinions i respect. I've really enjoyed your submissions as well. I'm envious of the contrast you work into your quick sketches. Something that i need to work on myself. My favorite part though is how you're conveying reflected light by keeping the shadows darkest at the edges. Cool effect.

I stopped working on this because i came to about 30 minutes. I think i may keep working on it though. I kinda like it so far.

If it gets closed, I will open it when I get around to my painting.

Not concerned about shutting it down, just don't recall seeing a duration posted anywhere. I think we need to have a set timespan in order to keep things active. And I'd hate to see this lose momentum - it's one of the better ideas we've had around here I think. Of course, I'm not counting out the possibility that I've simply missed the info =)

Hugh: There have been some great entires (love Sharma and retro_ones stuff and DL proving why hes the man we need more excuses to see your drawing skills) but that is genuinely scary - let see some more of that kind of thing. Good stuff - multiple entries are allowed (in fact they are nearly compulsory).

Personally I think a week is perfect.

If the time limit is 30 minutes, anyone interested should be able to set aside that length of time in a given week.

But either way, there needs to be a set duration or it will just fizzle.....

I guess a week is fine, although I'd prefer to have it last a little longer until it gets going. I mean, there's still entries coming in this thread

Either way, I'd like to stop this topic and move on to choosing the next one. Either I can pick the next person to start the topic, or we can vote on it.

All in all, I'd say this first try was a sucess. There are some fantastic entries in here - all of diverse materials and style. Very nice

A week is alright with me, seems a bit short IMO but I can work my way into it .
