Heya, all. I decided to try and airbrush a set of lips with the help of a walkthrough I found online. I've never really done anything via airbrush before, at least not in it's entirety. Thoughts? C&C? Thanks!

harder lines...

It needs more contrast, and your highlights and shadows fall in a couple odd places, so your light source seems odd...or your lips look "lumpy".

On the plus side, the colours work well, and the basic form is good. It's hard to do faces in chunks, but the shapes seem to work well. One of the greatest tips I ever got for airbrushing came from Radu Vero saying that "The folds of a mouth and any dominant shapes of the face are just that...smooth combined shapes." Made a lot of sense when I started thinking about lighting and how it would fall over the contours...instead of thinking too much of how "lips" would react..I just thought about light falling over two bow-like mounds in any field, or on any surface.

Helped more than I can say.

Keep going...tweak and resubmit

It would help, too to make the lips more symetric. Looks like she got punched on the right , there. Little swelled up.

It looks like a good start, but looking more like a skin to be placed on a game model or something, but the colours are great.

Ooooh...I like! Very nice Kine. The texture is just perfect, but the symmetry is still off. The left upper lip is a but smaller vertically than the right upper lip. The lower right lip is also a bit smaller (horizontally) than the opposing side. Other than that, nice work.

(Oh yah, is it just me, or is the nose a bit small?)

Other than that, I'd say I like it.

Too much use of the burn tool, my friend.

Black airbrush in overlay, but same general effect. *fixes it*

Lips are more symmetrical now though. : )

Is it okay if I paint on it?

Lets start with the skin.... This is not what you are painting but it is in the painting and it is buggin me. It looks like it is on fire. Lets get that orange tint out of there... add some pinks... and by all means, please stay away from the dodge and burn tools.

edit: hokay, you said you used a blend mode not burn and dodge.... eh... same goes.

Just use the paint brush... and make, mix, use the eyedropper to grab colors, then paint them on... I use light transparencies to mix colors on the painting itself, using darker and lighter colors than what i want... because of the low transparency.

You have actually done alot of good so far. eh... The lips... yes... lips. They need higher hilights and deeper depths (didnt i just say that yesterday about someting?) anyway, lips have a bit of shine, which is very bright. (not white though, never paint totally white becuase it will really flatten your piccie) eh... how about if you look at what I did and then ask me any questions you have....

yea, I'd say that about sums it up.
nice job there too, izz.

and again... steer away from that dodge and burn.
It's got uses.... but in moderation.
I prefer it for the edges of things.... and never in the "open".

Updated the last image posted. Made her cheeks rosey, gave a bit of shine to her lips, darkened the white highlight under her lip to give more depth, and fixed the nose.
