Well...I'm having a very hard time finding any sort of focus - either strucural or stylistic.

There's no cohesion or sense of purpose. Yo umove from photographic imagery to cartoon style iamgery with no intermediate or visual explanation.

...for what it's worth.

What *is* the intended purpose for the finished image?

That's because there really is nothing to communicate. It will be a series of photo manipulations of each member of the forums at SyteSociety. That's it. Nothing more. Therefore, the portraits do not need to conform to any style. Each portrait can be as different from the other as my personality can be very different from your own.

I thought it would be obvious what the purpose is... Let's see... four human elements... all faces... hrm... how hard is that? Sorry if I'm condescending. You came off that way.

Go pickup some back issues of Electronic Gaming Monthly. In those mags, the editors each had a different portrait. To them it didn't matter whether one editor was a cartoonized ninja and another was a 3D transformer. This is art not design and even though design is my forte... art can be very freeform.

I have some old issues from 1995 but... nah, I don't need to scan anything... eventually my point will get across that this is not about composition.

It's quite nice but it just doesn't say anything to me either. A few guys in a corner. I understand that your design doesn't have any particular meaning but viewers will probably be looking for a focus point and if they don't find one, it may be confusing... like it was to me. I do like the background a lot and I like your corner people on top of the background. They go well together but the image says nothing and your purpose really isn't obvious to me.

There's only one purpose: to showcase various photos modified to an extent where recognization is next to none. Like I said, art can be freeform. THIS IS NOT DESIGN. If I wanted it to be design, I would have removed the background, turned the portraits into 100x100 blocks and put the original photo counterparts side-by-side with the modified.

Here's the purpose of this thread: DON'T COMMENT ON THE COMPOSITION. I really don't care about the composition. COMMENT ON THE MANIPULATION EFFECT. On that note, I should post the originals, eh?

I'm updating! Slowdown on the comments. Jeez, this forum moves quickly.

Photo manipulations look decent enough to me, Morgan. I think the young guy with the hood is done well. The others are ok.

Yea, I liked the hooded guy as well in addition to the green guy. The green man looks kind of like some villain who could be The Hulk's adversary. I probably should fix his eyes up a bit. Sorry, if my posts are rather hasty, but I'm just typing as I go along trying to fit in as much BS as I can... these forums move fast...

{{edit - ok, more info -

There is *always* something to communicate. That is the only purpose of artwork or design. To communicate an idea visually.

"This is 'art' not 'design'."

Yeah, and the point???

Art, whether or not you may be able to understand this point, is also design. The opposite of course is not necessarily true.

How hard is it to comprehend? Very.
You have a sunset with some unrelated and unconnected faces floating over it for no reason whatsoever.

I really don't care what old gaming magazine there is that you base your perception of what this form of "art" should be...

.

Ok, next point - I came off as condescending? You asked for thoughts, I gave you mine. And in a rather polite, to the point, informed, and inquisitive manner.

That somehow offends you? I can't pretend to be sorry.

Yeah, that was the first thing that came to my mind. Sure, different style of manipulation, but there is nothing to tie them together.

Let's say you do a few faces in several totally different style (as you have), then make them look like they were painted on the side of a building. Being painted on a building, even though in different styles, would tie them together. They would all be different, yet has something visual in common.

Man, I hope that makes sense.

Boring.

That's the first word that came to my mind.

Unoriginal.

That's the second.

It's four faces with very simple Photoshop filters/blends applied and then stuck together in a completely meaningless and unrelated fashion. There's really no "quality" involved in that image at all.

To top that all off, someone gives you an honest and succinct opinion and you turn into an asshole.

If you want smoke blown up your ass run to mommy and daddy.
