For about a year now I've been thinking about doing a content CD for Tech-Slop. Got a few Q's I thought I would run by you folks before I get too serious 'bout this.

1) Is the background too dark? Right now it's set at #CCCCCC and it seems fine to me. However, lightening it up might be good for an HTML rip. (Tech-Slop)

2) Not sure what to do for a label. I do have an idea or two for printing them out. However, in the spirit of Tech-Slop, how about scrawling the label with a marker? I'm really torn on this.

3) Any tips for converting to PDF? This is another idea that I've been playing with. Strip some HTML, white background, and the tedious task of changing the DPI on all images. I already did some preliminary fiddling, but I can't help but think that there maybe a few things that I'm not thinking of.

What say you?

wj: Interesting idea (if I understand correctly) - you can create PDFs without needing Acrobat:

I have access to Acrobat 4, so I'm going to stick with that. Does a few things that I really like. Thanks for the thought. I was just wondering if there is anything I should keep in mind, but I'm probably being a bit too paranoid on this front.

That's interesting, JKM. Don't know if I like it though. Personally, I *hate* system pop-ups or autowhatever when I put a CD in. On Woman's machine with XP, it always pops up and she won't let me turn that "feature" off. Despite my personal preferences, I might be talked into it.

Back to the grind.

The color looks ok to me, and the label looking like a scratch pad is a good idea , too.

It's not a 'system' popup, it launches whatever file you specify on the CD, could be a table of contents.html or whatever. Just like auto launching an installer when you jam the Adobe Photoshop CD in. Supports multiple files too like: toc.swf toc.html (user doesn't have Flash plugin it will drop to the html, sweet). Good for dummies, and personally, I love autorun CDs, only way to do a presentation of this sort IMHO.

I hate those XP popups too. And I hate the "do you wanna make this email attached picture smaller?" popups with a burning burning burning hatred.

Picky picky, JKM. 'System' in a broader sense. Although, clarification is always good.

I came to some decisions with some of the stuff mentioned here. DB gave me a pretty good idea, but I'm not gonna tell.

Time to get to work.
