I want to see clowns. All different types, the seem to fit in everywhere in society, funny clowns, sad clowns, goofly clowns, nerdy clowns, circus clowns, clowns in the bull pen, acrobatic clowns, street mime type clowns, the average joe/jane walking down the street, they are in everything and everywhere. Lets see what you have got.

Rules

  1. You have approximately 30 minutes (try to limit differences by 1000 mins, give or take) to do a sketch/painting/model, digital or traditional of the supplied topic.
  2. Time dedicated to scanning, uploading, saving, etc, is NOT counted towards the time it takes you to do your entry. Just the time you spent creating it.
  3. You can submit as many entries as you want.
  4. Much like the monthly sig competitions, the previous chooser decides the next topic and the next chooser of said topic.
  5. Speed painting topics will last for approximately a week.
  6. Have fun!

A bit of a cheat, as it's just a detail, and far from becoming a "painting"...but this one might have legs for later

I like your last one a lot Michael, very creative Actually, I like all of the ones posted (except this one). Nice work.

about the full 30 on this one:

I hate clowns. Everything about them. Perhaps it's too many b-movies. But...there just seems to be something inherently wrong with someone in a clown suit.

My Ignatius J Reilly version of clown. About 20 mins.

This one was 60 minutes. Didn't finish but figured 60 minutes was getting up there for a speed paint.

I have to say that having looked at everyones work, i am deeply jealeous.

At present i use a mouse and find it difficult to put on screen what i see in my mind, I have artist skills, i know i have and it is frustratingly difficult when i see a mental image and start to work on it, and it ends up becoming a mess.

I notice that the majority of you good folks use graphics tablets in your work, and i have ordered mine as i feel it may just release that little something to enable me to convey better on screen my visions.

Your techniques amaze, ever day i pop in, several times, and wish my damn tablet would arrive and then maybe i can share my work with you lot.

Thank you so much for giving me inspiration everyone, you should all be proud of yourselves for giving us mere mortals example to aspire to.

[edit]Typo[/edit]

[edit] OK, i'm having a fight with a graphics tablet, and i aint bloody winning !!! Grrrr.......[/edit]

OK, here ya go, my first ever tablet creation, as promised...

Well axle, I hope the tablet helps you...but (even though I get sick of saying it) an artist shouldn't blame his tools.

A lot of people around here worked with a mouse, trackball, keyboard for ages, and the quality of their art is/was superb. I really do hope that you find a tablet to be helpful, but the idea that it will magically let people "create art" needs to be squashed, if not for you, then for anyone reading this.

If Caravaggio could brush crushed berries and egg-whites onto canvas to make masterpieces, then I think people can manage with a mouse and a pentium processor.

And yes I use a tablet...and yes it's a huge help at times...*at times*...but considering I've only had mine for a year, and a lot of folks here have had theirs less than that: They were talented before, that's why they're talented now

This isn't a speed paint but I wanted to finish him because he was so revolting looking, sad too.

Axle, your clown is a good start. I know how hard it is to get used to the tablet. All I could manage my first night was scribbled lines. I couldn't coordinate my hand and pen to the computer screen. It was an ugly, shaking scene, one we all go through I think. But it gets better and soon begins to feel as natural as pencil and paper. You've obviously got artistic talent (saw your sig entries too) so it'll be cool to see what you're coming up with a few weeks from now.

I don't think your clown is dying at all, DG. He looks suitably evil to me. Really nice stuff. You too Synax, impressive.

DG - Thanks for your advice, and beleive me, i listen to it all. I just get frustrated, because i know that given time and practise i can do better, but i want to be better NOW !! lol, on a serious note though, i feel that the tablet WILL become a very useful tool for me and i would in no way seriously blame it for my misgivings.

Amerasu - Looking at your work and the work of some of the others, continually gives me inspiration and willingness to " hang in there ". You make it look so damn easy, but i know it has taken hours and hours of continued practise, and i aim to reach your level eventually, no matter how long it takes me.

BTW: DG , " If Caravaggio could brush crushed berries and egg-whites onto canvas to make masterpieces, then I think people can manage with a mouse and a pentium processor " - Sounds like a good idea to me, but i fear that in my case crushing a mouse and pentium processor may not get quite the same results as Caravaggio had with his berries and egg whites, but hey !! maybe i'll give it a try for comic effect. <--
