It's alien & UFO week. Let's see your little green men and their ships.

Rules

1. You have approximately 30 minutes (try to limit differences by 1000 mins, give or take) to do a sketch/painting/model, digital or traditional of the supplied topic.
2. Time dedicated to scanning, uploading, saving, etc, is NOT counted towards the time it takes you to do your entry. Just the time you spent creating it.
3. You can submit as many entries as you want.
4. Much like the monthly sig competitions, the previous chooser decides the next topic and the next chooser of said topic.
5. Speed painting topics will last for approximately a week.

CFB - you have 30. No excuse for spending 12.

DG - very nice 'suggestive' work. Not the angular and rough sketch quality of the last clown that I love so much though

I would of, and, besides being extremly rushed right now, I don't think that it would of benifited from more time spent on it, besides, I don't exactly like it all that much, but it was a nifty idea when it was in my head.

I wish I was DG.

(EDIT=Or at least could paint like DG) of course, practice.

I know these threads aren't here for adding your 2 cents in about *how* to create something...
but if I may...
bareass - you are either using really soft brushes... or the air brush. You'll have better luck without both of those. Hard brushes (at low opacities if need be) ... and that's with the PAINT brush... not with the airbrush..... and you'll see improvements. Don't let silly soft brushes make all your transitions.... as things will enevitably be too smooth to be believable.

okie.. back to the painting.

Michael: Thats why I like Painter 7 for painting! I can use the Oil Pastels, which, depending on the Opacity and how hard a push, are either very light and blend light, or are very hard and blend hard. It's very usefull...But, it is harder than hell to get used to, and you can't make custom brushes easily like in PS. And whoever designed the interface should be shot...Many times...And buried in an unmarked grave.

On another note, if the time elapsed for the painting is +/- 1000 minutes now, then isn't rule 2 a bit unnecisary.

That's just sarcasm...
the point is to keep it "reasonable".

Sorry.

Sometimes, without being able to actually hear people being sarcastic, it just blows right over my head.

Okie...

I actually couldn't tell if you were talking about airbrushing or the time limit, so I decided on the latter.

Another example of something blowing right past my head that should of been obvious. No?

35 minutes or so

This one probably shouldn't be here as it was about 10 mins and I even cheated by copying the outline for the little blue guy from the big guy (sloth painting). But I like the colours and have zero desire to take it any further anyway.

Edit to add: CFB - very nice brushes, thanks

Here's over an hours worth of work. I might finish it later, but lunch is over and I have to get back to work. Fun topic, considering I just started playing XCom again on an old box I'm restoring.

This is what I don't understand - why do these need to be closed?

Just because we've moved on doesn't mean someone can't come and add something later.

I have often done images for RP's or SP's that were over. No reason it can't remain open....eventually it can be archived or deleted, without having been closed first.

Just a thought (albeit one I've tried to share an awful lot )...

DL, quite simply... it doesn't.
And here is also an example of something I don't understand...
... that there *has* to be a thread here for people to make something and then post.
There's no reason that someone should need a thread just to post an image. They can certainly create and not post it.
I've made plenty of RP's and SP's after the fact as well... and I just don't post them.
But you're right... it doesn't need to be closed first.
The only reason I close them is so it catches people's attention that this topic/theme is over... and that they should check-in to see if they are the choosing individual for the next week. Often times I don't even poke my head back in here until the end of the week to see what everyone has done. I assume there may be some people out there that do the same.
I'll leave them open from now on.

It's been about 4 or 5 days.. yah.
I attempted to contact him... to no avail..
If someone else picks a topic it wouldn't really matter to me...
It's not like choosing the topic for speed painting is some great honour...
it's just picking a topic. *shrug* I dont't think he'd care all that much if we just kept it runnin'.
