Hello. I have a specific goal that I'd like to attain someday. If someone is interested, please reply.

Using either Photoshop or even Illustrator (as I have both programs), I'd like to be able to achieve a vectorized effect of a raster (jpg) image such as this http://pixelpacked.homestead.com/files/PPForumBanner.gif

I checked with the girl that created that and she use Adobe Illustrator and sometimes even Photoshop. I asked for a tut even for a fee but she could only refer me to a book of how to use Adobe Illustrator as she's occupied at this time.

From what I was told, this can take from 1/2 an hour to an hour at most, provided you know what you're doing, ofcourse.

If you know how to create this kind of art and are interested, please let me know your $. The pic is a 400x300 jpg image. The tut can be in a form of htm, .avi or even via netmeeting or IM.

I took graphics classes but none of them actually covered what I'd like to achieve. I know both programs are powerful to do other things but this is the only thing that I'm mainly interested in.

Thanks!

that looks more lke something someone did in a 3d program and then rendered it with cel shading.

(edit and the guy in the middle's head is way outta proportion. it's massive. (/edit)

<edit2> can i stress how massive his head is enough?</edit2>

Rice: I get a 404 on that page. Anyway if I understand your question correctly then have a look at this:

there has also been a recent discussion here on similar topics.

Thanks for the replies. That was a great tut but unfortunately I do not have Freehand but I'll try to make something out of it using either AI or PS.

One other thing, I have a .psd file with all the layers on how such was created but can't make it out completely. The very bottom layer contained the background image (jpg), then next layer contained a filled shape of the head, then the eyes, nose, etc. which I initially thought were created using the pen tool but there weren't any paths.

IF any of you has done this before and willing to tutor using either AI or PS, please let me know along with the fee.

Thanks again! You guys are great!

I used cutout when I "cartooned" a pair of hands for an advertising flyer ... the lower you set the # of colours the bigger and less detailed shapes it uses to colour the image ... most photograph have waaay too many shades to give a good cutout at the first attempt, so try messing with the hue&sat, contrast and levels to reach a compromise where you retain the detail (and accentuate it) but reduce the number of intermediate shades (or bring them closer together).

So ...
Hope that helped ...
