Hi everyone, i'm new to this forum. I've heard nothing but good things about it, as opposed to others with immaturity, slander, etc etc. Anyways, i've been doing alot of work lately for wrestling clients and I need some critique and feedback on this concept of mine. i realy like the subtle light grey background pattern. i dont think the font you chose goes with it very well, though. infact, i dont think the colors or pattern you chose to marquee "wrestling journal" go very well with the background.

What then, do you suggest instead?? Now that I look at, the font doesn't really look that well to me either. Which way should I go?

Where to start?
*What are those dots? Do they serve a purpose? Get rid of them.
*The shape of the header graphic looks poorly formed--some of the lines look almost wavy, especially at the lower left. Clean the shape up a bit.
*The bevel is too small on the header graphic. The top part of the bevel is screwed up....fix it. Maybe add a drop shadow...if you want.
*I'm not overwhelmed with the background art for the header. Maybe something more fitting with wrestling would be appropriate. Something "heavier."
*The text is kinda ugly. It looks poorly formed shappen like the background of the header graphic. Look at the lower right of the O for instance.
*You're going to need to add an interface of some sort to navigate the site. I don't see where you're going to put it.
*The background is weird.
*It's boring too boring for my likings. Especially for a wrestling site--a sport known for its flamboyant and flashy stars.

PLEASE don't take offense to my review, I really don't want to start another thread like that.

OK, I don't actively dislike the dots, but the fact that they are placed at different wistnaces from the egde, now *that* bothers me. You have this soft rounded look above, if you're going to introduce rigid square elements, you need to be really sharp and consistent, otherwise the whole design gets too busy and messy.

The font, ooh, hrm... Rounded puffy fonts, they look cool, but does it say wrestling? I would think wrestling would be better served by some kind of sharp edged font, maybe a bit jaggy, maybe a sloppy script font?

i like the dots :-( but then again, they, along with the background, suit my personality. they *dont* fit his wrestling theme. id save them somewhere and use them for something a bit more subtle.

• It just doesn't look like a wrestling site. The colors are too soft and neat. I would suggest darker colors and meanner images.
• The shape of the header is not to my liking. Personally I think you should go with a square image with darker colors. Try black and a nice red and maybe yellow. Something to that extent. Get rid of the dots or squares or whatever that is.
• The font is too soft and nice also. Like the Doc said find a good sloppy script font. Make it meanner. Add some cuts and rips into it.
• Lose the bevel on the header.
• The dots going down the page, in the content area ... lose them also.
• The darker grey and ligher grey backgrounds just dont work for a wrestling site. Browse the www and Im sure you'll find plenty of wrestling sites. I bet 99% of them have dark colors.
• Do you have any way of navigation? I thought the left light grey area then I realized that its for updates. Perhaps lose that, add an image map that goes with the page and put your updates on your opening page.

That wasnt too harsh now was it? Alright well those are my $0.02. I dont think Ive ever watched wrestling so Im really just assuming they use darker colors by the way ...

Wow, everyone was right, you guys have helped ALOT. Thanks guys. Although, the colors aren't my choosing, the client wanted them like that. I have decided to redo everything anyway. I'm going to do a more professional looking site with more room for content. Because most wrestling sites are so jam packed full of info that design wouldn't have had nearly enough room.

Another wrestling site I did is www.wcwwwf.com I realize the aqua buttons and stuff are a bit trendy, but the owners loved it. Their hits tripled within two days of getting the new design. They were very pleased.

eek, i think we need to talk color scheme. those blues on the header clash heavy dude...i dunno i'm a color freak...do wacha like but those colors make me wanna hide under the bed...good idea for the page just make sure it fits everywhere. the dots are coming the dots are coming!

First site the font just isnt right, the wcwwwf.com site was pretty good. But try using more than blue.
