Hi guys. I just posted part of a portfolio I'm working on and would like a critique from the folks who might be in an actual position to hire a graphic artist. This is the first time I've seriously applied for a GD position and want to know what might turn you off on this portfolio?

Only the Graphic Design section works so far, along with the 4 examples (Illustration, Photos, Abstract, and Text).

Thanks

PS, I would love to see some successful portfolios from other folks.

Nice,

few comments:

The buttons on the left lower corner are to small...

The kerning and type in general on the blurb on the right is horrible, hurts my eyes to read it...

Perhaps if the page were smaller and everything was more compact you may even get better result of tying everything into eveything else

The small examples under illustration, photo, abstract, and text may look better all the same size (square preferably) and maybe with a 1px white border. I'd also try those images in b/w and see how it looks...

For the right hand blurb i'd suggest you keep the style of the text you used on the contact me button, and use text in the html, not an image...

On the "GO BACK" button take out the <-- and set it at the bottom of the black square...

You may wanna look the spelling of Typography up...there's no e...looks pretty bad to talk about pictures expressing a 1000 words and mispell the page title...

yeah, that's about it...waffles...my site is pretty much my portfolio anyway (netmosis.com) (new version coming soon netmosis.com/deteriorate)

Thanks Net...

1. I think I'll loose the blurb on the right hand side all together. I put it up as an image because I wanted full justification, but after thinking about it, it's unnecessary reading.

2. The pics have to stay color, it goes with the whole contrast theme

3. 'typ...o...gra....phy' Oh crap! *blushes*

Thanks for the input

Personally, I'm not a really big fan of black & white color contrast combination. It hurts my eyes... Maybe you should try to use completely black background instead.

k, keep them color but the one thing i'd definitely do is at least crop 'em square and the same size and give a white 1px border...

i like the b and w combo...the contrast is what makes the page interesting...to me and the waffles anyway...
