At first glance I'd say that the splash page for your site is average, a bit to wide for my tastes, the menu is to tiny, and the pop-up banner ads piss me off.

I think you have a good sense of design, graphic wise, but your navigation style is horrible (IMO).

I think that somethign with showing and hiding DIV layers many be a better option. I also agree that the pop-up window has got to go. The scrolling capital letter JS thing at the bottom is completely unneeded and destroys a perfectly good navigational tool (being the bottom link display).

I also agree with Boudga that you should condense the lenght of the splash image.

I have also noticed that your site loads like a snail trying to walk to japan on the top of a train heading toward england. Work on getting the load time up, and making the navigation a bit easier. The white text also does not go well on the gray, you should work on contrast.

The design was not to bad

but you should seriously do something about the navigation. those pop-up windows destroy's the pleasure of "surfing" the site! Use somthing like hidden <div>'s instead - anything!

and the load time was way too long!

I'm going to be harsh about one thing:

Remove the status bar animation. It's pointless and annoying, and prevents me from seeing what the links do. In the future, if that remains, I will not spend my time on this page.

On a less harsh note...

I don't like having popup windows. I'd do what WarMage suggested with some DHTML, if you know how. I like the design itself, it looks clean. Except for the background - that's sort of distracting, it contrasts with itself too much. You should make the 2 shades of grey closer to each other.

Note that white text on light grey backgrounds doesn't work well (About Me page). Also, on the News page, it seems like you're using a character set that my browser doesn't support or something, I can't tell, it's a bunch of gibberish with weird symbols.
