Look at the new/improved model at:
myjet Let's assume Rhino is good withuot animation. True, I did make the tedious work of frame by frame, but now that I have Amapi, I trust I won't have to. I also hope you'll agree this Rhno model resembles a real plane of some sort, and like the sub, it's quite easy to make. I'm eager to see what you think.

Large blue-green plastic dildo, with blue plastic carrots where engines should be.

The jaggies are horrible, and there's absolutely no texture to it. It looks like it was made by Mobil, and the employe forgot the details.

I can't comment on the rest, as....there isn't any. I do wonder what is "new/improved" about it though.

I'd give a word of encouragement here, but I have none. Keep trying I'd guess, though, perhaps not posting every single iteration of your work until you sort out the problems and ideas that people have suggested before, would be a good plan.

Looks more like a big blue suppository with wings.

Really Duga, have you ever thought about taking one project and making it good?

Good = no jaggies and looks like it took more than 5 minutes.

Yes, I think the concept of taking on one image....working on it, posting it here, getting comments....listening to some of those comments, then actually trying out some of the suggestions and trying to *actually* make a 'new/improved' image to post would be a very good approach to try.

It might actually accomplish something for you

Models like Dugi and the kaleidoscope are too difficult for me at the present. Maybe some day. Look at the new/improved model at:
540jet . All your criticism helped me a lot, since I wouldn't give in, and I made this improved model. This time I followed your various advices (helpful even when given by another group) and carefully looked at various jet models. Shadowing isn't possible up in the sky, I think. I hope you like, and already on my way to the next model. A question: What's this about modelling in one prog and rendering in another? I think I need a little explaining.

Looking good Duga!!

Modelling in one prog and render in another:

Create your model in Rhino for example.

Export the model as DXF, 3DS, etc.group or single object.
If you Export your model as a group you will be able to
ungroup it in Bryce to add different textures to separate objects
of that group.

Open Bryce...import object...

hope it helps

Here's an example I did in Infini-D
Exported model as DXF. Opened it in Bryce to render because I like
the lighting and the choice of textures etc. in Bryce more than in Infini-D http://members.home.net/bbtaylor/images/really.jpg

<edit>text was added after the final rendering in PS</edit>

Thanx for encuragement. I saw your model, but I am not in position to say anything but beautiful. More important, since I have some problems with Amapi, maybe you can help me by handing a url to download Infini-D, so I can see it. If, on the other hand you hold the opinion that according to whta you've seen of my work all I need is textures & lighting, Then I'm very content. Is Bryce the only app you recommend for such tasks? Suppose I download an illegal app?

Unfortunately or fortunately, depending how you want to look at it
Infini-D is no longer owned by Metacreations nor developed by them.

Carrera now incorporates Infini-D and Ray Dream Studio into one 3D application.

They sold most of their other progs to Corel Corps. http://www.metacreations.com/products/index.html

I thought you had Bryce?

The reasons I use Bryce for rendering as I said above is also because
I prefer the work space environment and it's exceptional Ray Tracing
capabilities. I rareley use Bryce for modelling.
Form Z is another excellent modeller but has limited Rendering and animation and is expensive.

If I were you I would seriously consider 3D Studio Max to get the best of both worlds. I would love to get into 3DStudio Max, but alas it does not exist for Mac OS

Also consider Lightwave 3D as a high end alternative.

All of Electro's excellent work is done in this program and the power and beauty of his work is a fine example of the capabilities of LW3D.

Illegal=not good...Bryce3D is not that expensive.
or try this link above to see if there is a demo to download.

There are many 3D progs out there that will import a DXF, 3DMF, 3DS Models.

I am not familiar with Amapi, but maybe it can do the Rendering of your models from Rhino? I think you are getting comfortable with Rhino for the Modelling, so now you need to get an application that will let you
import the model from Rhino and add textures light,Ray Trace Render, etc. or use what you have and master it.

hope it helps

Thanx a bunch for the highly informative data. Yes, I'm very comfortable with Rhino, for modelling of course. I've never seen LW, but have defenetely seen Electro's example he was kind enouph to direct me to. I am now experimenting with PS 5.5 lighting and filters for rendering. It does give a sort of different effect to the model. You can see it in sitting Dugi I just sent. Yes, I had Bryce, but I dumped it 'cause I coudn't get small files, and that made me pissed. I tried 3Ds Max in the past (my son supplied me with a copy, 3.1, I think), but then I knew nothing about 3D, so I dumped that too. I guess I did a lot of dumb things, but this is all in the past. Now I'll try again.
Thanx again,
Duga
