Okay, so I decided I might want to purchase and use Maya, but I've heard it's incompatible with AMD chips (I have an Athlon 950). |

I can't answer your question directly, but if you have the money to buy Maya, just buy a pIII chip. |

3d Studio max isn't supported on AMD chips either, but it does work. Just a little slower.. |

Maya will word (badly) on an AMD based system. If you were seriously considering buying it, you would also seriously consider getting an Intel Chip. Maya Has always, and will always require a Windows NT Kernel to run. So therefore, NT 4, or 2000 is required. Go to the Alias |

Thanks for the replies. The problem is that I was thinking of getting Maya instead of upgrading my system because I have nowhere near enough cash for both. Also, as a student I should be able to get some type of discount if I get it through the Arts and Sciences department of my school. |

Just an observation, but whatever problems Maya may have with AMD chips it doesn't have a thing to do with the OS. AMDs run Win2k just great, speaking from personal experience... |

Here's a suggestion, go to the alias/wavefront site and sign up for the A Taste of Maya CD. It's a 30-day free trial of Maya and includes some tutorials to get you started. Now one thing about Maya, you need to install the MS Loopback adaptor most probably unless you have some networking and such going on. The trial is just the basic version but will give you some idea of how it will run on your system. You'll also get a jump on learning this great program! Good luck and have fun! |

3d MAX will work the best on a Pentium system because I use to have an AMD system and MAX kept freezing on it all the bloody time....I was nearly pulling my hair out. Got it fixed to a Pentium platform and I've never looked back. In conclusion, go for a really good Pentium and also check out the system requirements for Maya and Max and it will say a Pentium. This is the best way to go if you want optimum performance. |
