Hey, how do I render just the models and the textures without lighting? Right now I get inky blackness, but I don't want to add a light source untill after I model everything.

Thanks.

umm, only thing I can think of for this problem is to push Z while your in a window in blender. Its not a full-quality render, but if you push 0 and go into camera view, it gets the idea closer...

I don't know how to get a render without using a lamp though....

It's considered good practice to set up a stage at least approximating what your final image will have. If you create your textures in an environment very different than the final image, you'll just have to heavily adjust them later.

I have a 'set' in Max that I usually load before starting anything. It has a camera and two lights (one key and one fill, diagonally opposed).

If you're modelling and can't see a shaded representation (I don't know if Blender does shaded views), you can create a modelling set by creating eight omni lights in a box configuration. Your model will be well-lit from all angles, but it will tend to look somewhat flat (due to the low contrast).
