Cool test shot. I'd like to see it reacting to the material on the pedestal a bit more tho, it looks cool but not really real, ya know? Good stuff overall, i need to find some more time to spend playing with 3d... |

Yeah, it's just a test of the caustics. The glass doesn't reflect, and I deliberately muted the shadow, so there's not much anchoring it to the scene. The only thing that gives it any sense of belonging is the refraction. |

I would think that the glass, though transparent/translucent, would still cast some shadow given the intensity of the light cast upon it... |

Yes, it did. Like I said, I deliberately muted the shadow to see the caustic better. It's a test image. |

Das? did you ever set up an actual wine glass filled with red wine, then site in in a similar light to see what this looked like?? |

No, the caustic is not 'realistic'. Unfortunately, I haven't quite got a grasp on how to control what Mental Ray does with caustics. The photon map settings are difficult to understand, and proper test renders take a long time. Eventually, I'll figure it out. |

looks pretty good. Causics are neat...but take way too long to calculate I love it for stills tho. |

no, it's definatley cool DAS, but most of us here will always have something to critique about an image...even when it's not asked for |
