Preserved Topic: Partially transparent background on a div...

I know there is a way to do this

I want to make the background of a div overlaying the background of the main page partially transparent.

Should I use a gif?

Oh, this is for a LiveJournal so that means no JS. CSS only.

Well, you can use IE & Mozilla alpha blending, which will make whole layer transparent (not only the background), so you'll need to add additional layer above that will contain text...

Anyway, the syntax is STYLE="filter:alpha(opacity=50);-moz-opacity:50%;"...

I tried that alpha filtering and couldn't get it right. All that was wrong was a stupid simple syntax error.
