Not a fan of the pic..sorry. Seems like your average, run-of-the-mill religious pamphlet (the look and layered photos, not the text.) The clouds seem overtly serene. The face in the clouds (the statue) just seems too blatant. No subtle meaning, just something to "look deep and pretty" Dig? It's not meant to be a shot..just meant to be. The composition is off with the text as it just floats for no reason where it is, and the font..well..it's like a Lord of The Rings meets Jim Bakker throwback there.

Sorry.

The text is an old Gaelic translation. It appears in most books of shadows at one point or another. I can't recall what text it was supposed to have come from, but I'll see what I can find later. Nonetheless the reference is supposed to describe some of the inhabitants of Erin. Mythical, but neither of heaven or hell. Nothing that could be laid out in the judeo-christian ideal of the three levels.

It's latched onto by pagans and wiccans for it's supposed description...though any religion could warp it's words to mold to their beliefs.

You don't mind if i dismiss your critique ..do you? No offence but i detect an undercurrent that i don't like. Perhaps you need to work on the delivery.

Do I mind? Not at all. You were the person asking for the critique..which was honestly given and delivered quite as flatly as it could be. You might want to ask yourself if you want honest opinions though, as those who dismiss honest commentary usually are looking for something more coddling.

Nonetheless the critique stands without feeling. The composition is arbitrary. The photographic layering is too blatant. The stock viewpoint and undercurrent are pedestrian. The font is facile.

If you're reading undertones into that, then I'm sorry to say that they're yours...and not mine. The piece did not move me in any way, or disgust me for that matter, so an emotional response would have been misplaced. Does that sound harsh? Probably..but again..it's more about what you're hearing.

dark...

why thank you ever so much for a critique..i didn't realize i'd asked for one. :-) I asked what ya know what..never mind dear. I don't like a lot of stuff I get paid to make but I make it.

Could someone remove this thread? I really don't see anything coming around that will be constructive. :-)

Yeah...usually when people ask for advice and denote that the piece isn't something they're happy with right now, it's sort of a statement of needing critique and commentary.

Of course usally when people ask for selfsame, they're not just looking for a pat on the back. I'll keep that in mind for your posts from now on, ettie. I wouldn't want you to progress from anyone else's knowledge here. I'll reserve the backpats though..I usually break shoulders that way, especially whilst gritting teeth.

Too bad you took your piece down though...others might have learned from it...and the commentary on it. But why share?

{EDIT: And After reading a thread that you're "leaving"}

Well, good riddance would be too cruel a thing to say..."too bad" fits more appropriately. ~shrug~
