I have to agree with DL. I believe it's common courtesy and I like him to know that when I call him a complete git it comes from the heart and I take full responsibility.

And I can handle my own existence, it's all these other people around that I have problems with.

jiblet,

The late Carl Sagan said, "It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring." Keep up your search for truth! I believe that those who seek *will* find. If any of us give up the search, then finding truth, even in part, is an impossibility.

Dhromed,

You make a good point about how our social natures dictate many of the "morals" most societies share. I happen to agree with you on that. Of course, I have a different way of looking at it. I believe we were created to have relationship with other humans *and* God. I must maintain however that your version of morality is a moving target and mine is fixed. I'm not talking about cultural variations like etiquette but the biggies like abortion, murder, substance abuse, sexual impurity, etc.

If you really believe that we humans define morality then that means that Hitler's version is just as valid as your version. Would you accept that? It would just be a matter of majority rules. On what basis could you possibly judge someone else's morality without some absolute standard? I'm really asking the question rather than slamming you on that point, I'd be interested to hear your view.

Finally, do you find it at all ironic that your positive atheism is an affirmative belief in something that is *not* there? How in the world does one go about proving a negative???

Hitler based his actions purely on personal opinion, and he was able to sell it to the people. It had nothing to do with basic morality.

If you kill someone because was in your way, then, as opposed to it as one may be, you had a coherent reason. The debate is open. Suppose you didn't 'conspire to kill', but openly challenged the someone to an official duel, and if such practises are completely normal in your society...it's not 'morally wrong' then, is it?

When you practise, for example, racism, you're just plain ignorant. Still, you probably deserve to be pitied, rather than punished, for it. Especially if you appear to be unteachable. Hitler was paranoid and a megalomaniac. That's a dangerous combination.

I kinda see morality as more of a social issue rather than a religious one. ??
