hmm...jaggies, I think. Or they could just be animation artifacts. Other than that, great concept, mahjqa. Can't wait to see where you go with it.

All right.
step one: make a drop-shaped.... well... thing. Put it on the bottom of a black canvas, then copy it (so you've got two twirly-things). Use [filter>other>offset] to create the amount of frames you want for a looping animation. (every frame a new layer) You should get something like this.
step two: run [filter>adjust>polar coordinates] ) on all the frames. (see Guru's network's tutorials for an explanation of that filter)
link all the layers of the animation and use [edit>free transform] (CTRL-T) to transform the layers as you want them (as all the layers are linked, they are all transformed in the same way)
Repeat for the other swirls.
When you're done you'll propably have an animation on a black background. You'll most likely want that background to be transparent.
To cut the white swirls out of the black blackground, go to the channels palette. (it's a tab in the layers palette) control-click on one of the color channels (red, green or blue)
What you've got now is a selection of all the white parts on the canvas. The black parts are unselected, the 50% grays are 50% selected, and so on. If you fill the selection you now have, you've got your white swirls on a transparent BG. Repeat for the other frames.
Once again; if you have any more questions, just ask them. (uhm, yeah.) If you want to try it yourself, go ahead!
edit: I noticed the animations here are really choppy... sorry. I had to keep the size low....
edit2: and most likely the animation will be even weirder on some versions of Netscape navigator... (and they're already moving fast here) uhm.. sorry again, but I don't have the time to fix that now.

Damn impressive... well done Mahjqa! (again!)
Rest assured I'll be copying this technique is some differing way soon.. here's what I did with your fire... simply mashed around the levels and curves, slight vertical motion blur, spherised, text underneath, border and feint grid on top, et voila!
Heres a good question for anyone fancying some experiment...
We know that the clouds filter makes a pattern - but we want to do stuff to the clouds to make them less like clouds and more like something else - I adjusted levels and curves, and the pattern remained perfect.. but if you try to gauss-blur it, it goes bad... What filterse/effects can we use on the pattern to make it less like clouds, without losing the pattern????

It's interesting Mahjqa. What if you put a mask of your name over that first part of your little tutorial, so that the main horizontal ring showed your name every rotation?
Sonic, A couple filters you might try would be Stylize > Find Edges or Stylize > Trace Contour...

Sonic, it's a nifty trick I found out... Now, if you have a repeating clouds pattern at (let's say) 128*128, go and set your canvas width and heighth to 300%(of the original size), so you've got the original pattern in the middle, and transparent space around it. control-click on the layer, so you've selected it. click [edit>define pattern]. (in 6.0, it asks you to save it. do so.) make a new layer, grab the fill tool, set the filling method to [pattern] and fill the layer with the clouds pattern.
Now you can edit the top layer with gauss blur/motion blur/almost any filter you want, until you have something which suits your fancy. When you're done, control-click on the bottom layer (which still holds the original pattern) so you've got a selection with the size of the original pattern. Go to the top layer and click [edit>copy] (CTRL-C) and you've got your new repeating pattern.
