After careful consideration, I have come up with a theme for this month's sig contest. I had a few that I was tossing around (like World Cup sigs ), but seeing as this is the Asylum (and seeing as how I have spent the past few months in a state of near insanity while working on my thesis), I have decided upon the following:

Torture/Therapy

I know there's a fine line between the two sometimes (eg., shock "therapy"), which is why I just decided to lump them together. Any instruments or forms of torture/therapy that you want. Medieval is good, modern is good, future is good. You can even go Biblical if you want. The more pain, the better.

Well, that should cover it. Let the games begin!

First entry... kinda quick...

FYI: A cat paw was used in mideval torture. A person was tied up to a post and then they would take this Clawed instrument that had 4-5 sharp tines on it, mounted to a block of wood. They would use it to too peel off the flesh of their prisoners who are in for interrogation.

Woohooo! I just figured out that grungy brushes work well for blood!

Hmmm... just a friendly reminder. The theme is torture/therapy, not death.

Anyone familiar with the work of the great Count Rugen will know that death means the end of pain, which is somewhat counterproductive if the goal is to produce as much pain as possible. So we would like our subjects to remain alive, if at all possible.

Carry on.

counterfeitbacon: Nice sig but you do need less blood on it. Due to the shape of a razor blade (its blunt flat end) it is more able to do shallow cuts on the skin only bloodying the edge (with some splashes) or a deeper cut in which only the trailing corner would become seriously bloody. I suspect (as this is all theory, of course) that it would be difficult to bloddy a razor quick like that (unless you were licking the blood up the balde I suppose).

I'd also move the text so only the bacon hung off the end of the razor.

Suho1004: Great theme - if only I were a decent artist (Emperor's mission for June: become profficient enough with PS to enter sig competition). We'll see.

counterfeitbacon: I like that version - I'm not sure about the patch of blood and I think it would look justas effective (if not more so) if you just had the bloodied razor (the best type of horror is psychological horror so leave a little to the imagination).

DarkGarden: Really...that's very good then. My problem is that I am very used to drawing in pen, and have a hard time when it comes to airbrushing with a mouse. Practice makes perfect? In any case...you rock!

mahjqa: Thanks. Personally, I feel all sigs for a contest should be original, but I wasn't sure what the rules on that were.

Also, I'd like to second what VP said. Size does matter, both in terms of file size and pixel size. Some of these sigs are really nice, but some of them are just a tad too big to be viable sigs...

But I really like what I'm seeing so far.

Oh, yeah, InSiDeR, I've got to say that I don't really think your sig fits the category. If you decide to go with that, I will consider it along with the other sigs, but I don't think it completely fits the topic. It's just not tortuous enough for me...

Is mine one that is in the "a little bit too big catagory" and if so is it too big pixel wize or too big of a file size?

Actually I made it big for effect. Its "TORTURE" to download it!!!

... Ok I apologize, that was just bad.

Okay, for those of you who have tattoos, I don't need to explain the torture/therapy angle here...

Personally, I think that a wide sig is ok, since we've got all the space to work with anyway. Sigs that are too tall, though, take up too much space. Once you get above 150 pixels or so in height is starting to push things. That doesn't mean, of course, that I'm not considering sigs that may be too tall. It just means that it might count against the sig.

[Edit: You know, there's been a lot of talk about what sigs fit the category, are too big, etc. I think it's good to have guidelines, to give everyone an idea of what's expected, but I don't want to get overly picky. So I'm going to rehash the important points here, and then I'm not going to say anything else on the subject:

1) Again the subject is torture/therapy. The key to this is: "the more pain, the better." I also want to point out that the therapy angle could be explored as well (as long as it involves pain, of course).

2) File size will be taken into consideration, but the primary criteria are quality and creativity. In other words, a larger file size will be forgiven if it's good enough.

3) I have a personal thing against tall (not wide) sigs. Personally, I try to keep my sigs under 100 pixels tall, but for the sake of this contest I'm willing to give a little. As in number 2, though, the primary criteria are quality and creativity. There is no cut off number for height, but it will be taken into consideration.

I am not going to say anything further on rules or regulations now.

If you have a really burning question that needs to be asked, you can always e-mail me. Now, ladies and gentlemen...

To the pain!]

Ok, point well taken about the size.

As for the theme, maybe more details are needed. I see lots of torture, little therapy (unless we're assuming that's your enemy's eyeball you are stabbing ). I chose a fresh, raw tattoo myself because when I got my tattoo, it was almost an hour of sitting as still as I could while taking tiny little needle stings over and over. But when it was over, I felt really energized, and then later, I felt really really relaxed.

Are you looking for something a bit more extreme than that?
