The poster has demanded we remove all his contributions, less he takes legal action.
We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.

just remember: It's the keywords that get threads out of the sink - not linkwords!

and for all the lazy Mad Scientists out there: ->the sink

edit: uh... I guess we'll all be checking the same threads for eternity.

Any idea how we could mark threads for deletion (when the time comes), so that we don't always go into them and try to preserve them when they're unworthy?
Or do we distribute pages to the ms? remeber that the pages will change everytime we run the cron job... (currently the 'tyberius prime manual cron daemon' averages once every second day...)

Oh, and I'm preserving any 'first post' kind of threads - it's nice to come back to a piece of your own history.

My first post thread no longer exists... it was a PS thread that I started after innocently stumbling on the Asylum... little did I know that two years later I'd still be here.

Yep, lot of stuff in the sink. Looks like you guys are going to have some fun.

*heads back up to the tower*

all threads in the sink are already archived, and therefore locked.

actually, there are about 6000 threads in there. we're 41 ms... even if we were just one, and did 5 threads a day, we'd be through in about 3/4ths of a year.

velvetrose: Unfortunately there is a gap in their coverage, and that's when I made my first post... oh well, it's not like it was anything earthshaking. Just a stupid question.

Thanks anyway...

OK so I'm in The Sink and it looks good but I think a slightly better approach might be to allow rapid deleting of threads so anything in The Sink has a delete button at the top. That way we could rapidly trim out the rubbish and preserving the good threads will seem less of a chore - its all psychological after all. Probably 60-80% of those threads can be sent into oblivion without anyone shedding a tear and it would mean we can concentrate our valuable time on dealing more efficiently with those threads that do need our attention.

Threads in the sink now can be deleted (lower left corner, 'delete').
So everybody get cracking.

TP: Cheers for that - I'll have a crack about getting the numbers downa bit but perhaps we want to decide what should stay and what should go (with a bit of tweaking that would make a good song) as there are an awful lot of threads but I'm umming and ahhing over quite a few but perhaps we don't.

I woul ask everyone to keep an eye out for useful threads and fill in the bits they can and this goes double for people starting threads that will get archived (like the sig contest, speed painting, etc.) or if you thread gets a lot of good input. I'd like to think that all the inmates can help with the first part of the archiving process and the mods can then do the final tidying up.

Is there some stats about the number of hits for the threads in the Sink ? 'cause it could give a relevant information of the still useful one.
Another thing I think of is to pick the keywords coming from search engines and filter the Sink according to the most important ones plus some in house ones ( e.g. 'sig contest', 'North wing squid', ... ).

Those process would take a lot of time but it should significantly divide the amount of work for the Mad Scis.

no, there are no hit counters besides the usual Wakkos says to give him my pills - should I?.

You can do a backlink search via google - but with the new urls less than a month old, this won't be easy, either.
I can get at the raw apache stats for the last couple of days (about a week into the past), but they're not 'lightwight' - between 12 and 16 megs, uncompressed.

Unless the presence of thousands of threads in the Sink slows down the whole Asylum, you could investigate the search engine keywords method and set up a little script to log them during 4-8 weeks. Once the base of keywords have reach a siginficant size, it could be used to filter the Sink.

they don't harm the asylum at all - they could sit there for the next couple years, without doing any harm.
I'll think about this the coming weekend.
