Ogie, I think you should really lay off the controversial topics... I mean, post a thread denying/affirming the existence of God, but Freecell vs. Solitaire? What are you trying to do, man, start a massive flame war?

Ahem. Personally, though, I also prefer Freecell. Solitaire is just... dull. Not to mention way overplayed.

(If you're really looking for games to keep you busy... try Qarcade. Tons of time-sucking stuff there.)

Ah, Ogie, I'm sorry... I was just trying to make a joke (that's what the slimie was for). There's nothing wrong with the thread at all, I just have the tendency to get silly sometimes. Sorry about that. By all means, carry on.

Now personally I can go either way. It really depends on if I want to win or not. Solitaire is a bit more difficult, where freecell should be won almost everytime.

On a similar note. Is it cheating in minesweeper to start the game and then click around randomly until you clear up a space to work with ( restarting if I blow up )? Do I have to start with a guess and go from there?

Hmm..

I like them both fairly equally... Solitaire is good only if you play it with Vegas rules (you only get to go through the deck 3 times), because it limits what you have to work with.

Free Cell is good because you know every hand is win-able, and you can keep playing the same game until you figure it out.

Spider Solitaire is my new challenge. Harder than you might think!

bd - of course not!

I've never played either and couldn't unless someone taught me how. That person woud probably have to physically tie me down.

I think that's really the whole point of minesweeper, really. I've seen a lot of people use the click-around-like-a-madman technique, but personally I like to use the four corners method (click on the four corners and work from the first space that opens up, then click around like mad if that fails). The start of the game is always luck, and it only becomes a thinking game after you get an open space.

Which leads me to this brilliant idea: since it's always luck when starting, why not have the game choose a random square (one of the safe squares, of course) to clear upon starting the game? The first click is always random anyway, so why not save players the time of clicking around at random and getting blown up?

Um, contrary to appearances, I do not actually play minesweeper all that much...

I've never played Freecell. Uninerest more than anything else has kept me from it.

Solitaire rocks.

Freecell is really simple (though to tell the truth it was years before someone showed me how to play)

You have 4 cells in the top left and 4 in the top right.

In the ones on the right you want to get a suit together in order same as solitaire. Ace first then its two, three... etc. Getting all the cards up here is the goal of the game

You can move cards from the bottom of the stack to any of 4 places

1. To the top right cells but it must be in order as stated above.
2. To a cell in the top left. These are free spaces that can be used by any one card at any time.
3. To another statck. In this case cards, same as solitaire, can only be moved to the bottom of another stack and you must alternate color and in descending order. A red 7 must go on a black 8.
4. To an empty stack. After you empty a stack you can move any card there.

You can move groups of cards as well. If you have black 8, red 7 and black 6 in a row in a stack with the 6 on the bottom you can move all three to a stack with the red 9 open on the bottom (again same as solitaire)

Oh and kings can only be moved to blank cell. Aces go under twos but why you'd do this and not put it in the top right is beyond me.

Minesweeper all the way. My best times on this computer:

Beginner: 6 seconds (I think I might have had 0 once but that doesn't really count)
Intermediate: 54 seconds
Expert: 197 seconds (I know I've gotten much lower than this on other machines, like my laptop)

My old roomate was freaky fast at Mine Sweeper. I'll have to email him to ask him his best time on the expert level but I'm pretty sure it was under a minute. I never believed it myself until I saw him do it.

I'm more of a hearts/spades kind of person but I had to choose I'd probably go with Solitaire. I like to play it Vegas style.

Minesweeper. Solitaire. Freecell. In that order. (Never really understood Freecell till now, actually. Thanks, bit.)
