Thoughts? IMHO This lady has ignored the fact that her son made the wrong choice by driving drunk at 90mph.

I saw this earlier.

This makes the lawsuit by the lady who burnt herself with McD's coffee seem almost reasonable.

It's a terrible thing, the grief that this woman is dealing with.

But refusing to accept the reality that her son did - as many kids and plenty of adults also do - make a series of bad choices that resulted in his death is not going to change the end result, or the fact that teenagers have been drinking alcohol since alcohol has existed (basically all of the history of human society), and suing Coors will not change any of those facts.

She can take some solace in the fact that he didn't kill anyone else in the process.

Um, what? Yeah, maybe the beer companies have the moral responsibility not to target underage drinkers, but since when have they had the "duty" of protecting the youth from drinking?

I must have missed school the day they taught us that we were all victims and not responsible for our own actions...

My dad and I were just having a conversation regarding outrageous lawsuites.

FOXNews aired a special on doctor's malpractice insurance and how its driving doctors out of business. While I don't believe awards and what a lawyer can make should be capped, I feel very strongly that those who use peoples misfortune to sue someone for their own benefit should be taken outside and beaten to death in public.

It's not even as though this women is just suing Coors out of spite. She's also suing his exgirlfriend and her mother.

Where the hell are the Coor's police when you need them? Protecting the child is a parent's responsibility, mourn and move on.

edit: I agree with Jestah. Something must be done to stop this assanine abuse of the courts.

I know, I'll sue God because he allowed me to become sick and miss that day... we all know the Old Man's got a fortune tucked away up there.

More public beatings sounds like a good idea.

I remember when I was in high school, my arch-nemesis (yes, I had an arch-nemesis in high school) got kicked out of class one day by a teacher. He got into his car, drove down the road in front of the school at about a hundred mph, and wrapped himself and his car around a tree. Had that happened today, the parents would have undoubtedly sued the school and the teacher for kicking their son out of class and allowing him to drive into that tree at a hundred mph.

Suho, you're thinking way to small my friend. Yes, God allowed you to become sick but there was an entire school full of diseased children/teachers/staff. Surely you can add each and every one of them to your lawsuit.

Why stop there? Why not sue the dealer who allowed the mother to buy the car, the auto workers who were allowed to build it and the gas-station attendant who allowed the car to be filled with fuel?

When will people learn to stop allowing people to do things?

Wow...just plain wow.

Surely it is a huge loss for the woman. I think everyone will agree on that.

But that aside...how in the world is suing Coors, or anyone else, for that matter, going to change the situation for the better? In this case, it won't (other than monetarily for the woman, that is...and the lawyer).

Well, this case should get thrown out...let's hope that is the case.

It's a simple matter of not being able to accept the death.

Which - in and of itself - I won't judge her for.

But she has just lost every ounce of sympathy that she may have ever gotten by taking this route.

Jestah:
I saw that on fox. Apparently the doctor was sued for malpractice of a patient he first saw two hours after the patient had been declared dead.

Nice to see that he got off the hook, and it was quite pleasing to see that he won/settled in his counterlawsuit against the lawyer that filed the malpractice suit. Brings some hope...

You know - I'm forever trying to think of ways to utilize the court system to make money for myself... I just don't have enough tragedy in my life for it...

you know, I want to say something here, like, someone in my family should die in some strange accident so I can sue for it, but it seems so much like tempting fate! Dangit! Why oh why do I have to have a conscience?

Oh man - if every mother who lost a child to drunk driving sued every alcohol company that ever sold alcohol...

This smacks way too much of the whole tobacco industry bullsh*t...
