some alien
guy with gas mask

brain-stormed a couple of concept characters as if they were for a fighting game, turned out totaly opposite..

some wierd alien guy that more, fits first person shooter games as a freaky mofo.
and a star wars like "bio-freak" sith... or whatever...

no reference used on both...just straight out of hand, mostly... didn't plan in advanced either...kinda, the more I constructed the body the more I saw what I wanted....

C&C? please...

The alien, I am not sure how he would use that weapon without hitting the floor. Other than that they are amazing. I would like to see some more work on the color!

Gasmask guy seems to want you to finish him and then color him!

Yellow just doesn't seem to be his colour. Other than that, I like both of them quite a bit.

Here's my speed painting for the week.
Can't say how long because I've been up-n-down with the little one. Definitely less than an hour, though.

Thanks, Ruski.

Bah! Don't be a colour wimp.

Warjay's Quick-n-Sleazy Colour Picker Method

For the gasmask guy, I went with some shade of brown for skin.
Start a new layer.
Paint in some highlights.
Ctrl + u and play around.
I ended up deciding that yellowish looks good enough for highlights.
Start a new layer.
Paint in some deep lows.
Ctrl + u again.
Decided on some nasty shade of purple.

Variation with Screw It Attitude

In the brownish flesh, I tossed in some splotches of red.
Between the brownish and purplish lows, I tossed in a hint of green.
No real reason why I picked those colours.
(I painted more of that guy than I'm showing.)

Yes, you too can become a colour pickin' whiz like myself if you follow your eyeballs and take a "screw it" attitude.

I don't paint often, but a screw it attitude has helped me a great deal. After slopping stuff around and just goofing, I am learning to put real intent into things. My play.fiddle.learn approach as applied to painting or something. One of these days I'll pull out junk and give ya'll something to giggle at.

~sits back and waits for the real painters~

I digress. Look at how many times you've opened up a new layer, or opened up the color/saturation dialouge. Aren't we supposed to be paintint here? It might look good, but it's bad form.

Ruski:

On the alien, it looks good, and the anatomy is fine, however you're forgetting to modifiy the muscles in concordance with the characters movement: muscles bulging, contracting, stretching, etcetera. Especially in the arms. Also, that large...blade...is questionable.

On the sith: I can't find much to crit, with the exception of a few anatomical mistakes.

Also, you may want to clean up your lines.

Good work

They both are nicely done.

however, I really don't think any fighting style input was thought on them. You really have to design the character anatomy based on its fighting style and the sort of fighting game (take Marvel vs Capcom and Soul calibur for example). Will he/she/it be a frequent energy ball variation user? Does he has fast paced attacks? Can he mutate into something else?

Characters that use no clothes are usually related to the fact that they can shapeshift their body in compensation; think of Carnage (from Spiderman) for it; complexions are just relevant where his most predominat attacks will be. A character with long ranged attacks will usually use some sort of large weapon (e.g: big swords, lances, bows, etc), having some thin yet strong arms, and he will probably have some decent agility, which means he will be not a big bulk nor a short dude. The lsit goes on, but playing often fighting games will get you the idea on it.

Your alien dude, if most of his attacks depend on his razor shaped arm, should have some sort of shield in teh other arm at least, as probably most of his attacks will be powerful yet slow; he should wear some clothes (maybe just a minimal armor covering 1/3 part of his chest) because he looks like a shape-shifting dude, which i doubt you had in mind for him. The masked guy resmebls too much Kabal, but i think he probably has some strong kick based attacks, and some defensive technique using his arms. Too acrobat, if you think about it. he should wear some sort of gauntlets on taht matter.

Heh, I guess I am getting a bit too far with all this shit. I have just been playing too much MvsC and KoF97

EDIT: I dont think yellow suist the alien dude either. How about some dull green?
