It runs through POST fine, and will show the Win2K boot screen, however, about halfway through that (at least halfway according to the status bar at the bottom), right after the keyboard lights flash, all the lights go out, and it acts like it finishes loading Windows, and goes to the blue background, but doesn't show the logon dialog. It acts like the keyboard and mouse are disconnected (can't turn on NumLock, CapsLock, etc). Same problems if I try and boot in safe mode too. |

well - I'd try to hit f8 at the beginning, right before the win2k boot screen, and load the 'last know good configuration' - it'll hardly harm you, if it doesn't work (you might need to reinstall software you installed since the last good boot, though). |

This happened to my comp in about November last year, exact same thing. If I remember, F8 wouldn't let me do anything so I had to backup my HD by using the same method that you thought of LF. Sorry that I'm not more help here. |
