hi,
i'm working on a hp pavillion zd7000, 1gig ram, 128 Nvidia GeForce FX Go5600 graphic card. When i'm working with PS (7.0 or CS, doesn't matter), all of a sudden after some random action /function, the program AND my computer completely crashes (as if i pushed the power off button!!!!!...OFF) What in the world is this. I'm using PS on a professional basis, and I N E E D to be able to work with a stable PS.

Does anybody now anything about this problem.
I've already updated the graphic card driver...

Thank you so much for your help, it's really apreciated
thx

welcome to the asylum, tric.
Please note the lack of ! in this post, things that are very important to you rarly are to the other board members, also see your ->Reception.

Then, you were reasonably polite,
but alas, your problem descriptionc doesn't pinpoint to one particular thing. I presume you're using your computer for PS most of the time anyhow, so you wouldn't be able to tell us if it happens in any other program?
Does it regulary happen after some time, or can it happen right after the machine was started the first time in the day? If the first, it could be a heat problem - try running it without its cover for a day or two, if that helps, it's very likely to be heat related.
Otherwise, it could be a weak power supply shutting itself down to prevent damage - or maybe even some malware in the background shutting down your machine at random intervals.
You say it's like you pushed the power button... does that mean that windows is shutting itself down correctly? That's what should happen when you hit the power button, as opposed to pulling the plug out of the wall, or hitting the on/off switch at the back of the machine. If windows is shutting down, look in our ->faq for a malware (I recommend Ad-Aware) and virus scanner, and run them. (There's a command you programs can call that brings windows down *really* fast - like a couple of seconds - but you should be still able to see the shutting down screen).

It might help to know what windows version you're using, as well.

So long,

I was having a similar issue on my older, AMD 1.4 with a AMD chipset with first gen DDR memory. I found early version of nView to be a problem with photoshop, and sometimes IE, sudo-random lockups etc....

I would agree, sound a lot like a heat issue, maybe on of you fans is dead, likely the one on the video card.

stability issues can sometimes be solved by a little bit of underclocking your ram and cpu ... also using main-board default bios settings may help ... and yea check the fans ... psu, cpu and vga ... and the temperatures ... maybe you have to install some better fan(s) ... just cleaning them may also help if you've had the comp for half a year or so

also windows can be the source of many problems ... maybe win-update would help?
if you have a spare, empty hdd ... try using it as the only hdd, install all necessary things there that you need to run PS ... if it still crashes etc then it's probably a hardware issue .... switch back to your old hdd+win+ps

if it's a hardware issue then i believe it is most likely ram or mobo becouse ps doesn't use much vga,agp capabilities and cpu faults would be more fatal - maybe

good luck ...
