hi inmates
does anybody know if companies block HTML mails? i would need it for some sort of advertising project in school. i am planning to send the e mail seperately to every address, so there won't be a mass e-mail.
do you have any other advices for general spam filters? (and no, i really do NOT plan to send any spam mails....i just want to be sure that my e mails will be received by the companies)
thx in advance.

depends - generally, html mail is not completly filtered - but at least my spam filter filters 'single image' emails consisting of just one image, without text.
If you don't use any 'buzzwords' (viagra) in your mail, you should be fine, but I'd check the legal aspects of unsolicitaed mail in your country, anyhow.

All of the companies I have worked for have never filtered html emails. The standard setup at each of them was to disable the auto preview in outlook so the page doesnt load without the user actually looking into what the emails about and unwantedly running a malicious script the AV doesnt pick up . My point beng that the sender and subject in this case are crucial in whether the email actally gets opened or not. Without alot of "space" in these lines to entice the user to actually open and view all the hard work you put into an html email, you gotta pick the text in these lines carefully.

just one of many other things to consider when sending adverts unsolicited

on a side note, I consider html mail a nuisance - I prefer plain text every time.

I'm not sure how widespread the practice is, and I can imagine it's very individual from the persons in charge but in my former job I got quite a few calls fom customers that did not recieve our emails due to this.

I'd say that maybe 5 percent of our customers filtered out all HTML-emails.

Apart from that I agree with TP. I almost never sign up for emails unless they can provide me with a plain text alternative.

Oh, and at least the earlier version of Notes did not support multi-part mime emails very good.

Most places don't filter HTML email out completely, but does filter out scripting in them.

Most places where I install Exchange servers run Outlook 2003, which doesn't show images in HTML email by default.
