In the past, I've been seriously annoyed by the dialog windows pops up when you hit alt-tab - it just has some design flaws that annoyed the heck out of me.

Therefore, I created SmartTab - Tyberius' Alt-Tab Replacement.

Features:
-All windows with small icons & full title at a glance.
-Activate a window either by using the regular alt-tab dance, or hit a number between 0 and 9, or by clicking it's title (usefull when you've your right hand at the mouse already).
-Less resource hungry than the windows XP power toy alt-tab replacement.
-Works on Windows 2000 and XP.
-Configurable Colors (see faq)

You can download SmartTab for free at http://test.coonabibba.de/random/SmartTab.exe.
Just start it - if you don't like it, either kill its process, or restart your machine - you'll need to put it into your startup folder if you like to use it all the time.

And a final quick screenshot:

Note: I know this is mostly identical to the text in the faq - that's where I'll post updates in the future, but I also want feedback - and a thread is much more appropiate for that, don't you think?

So long,

Thanks to the recommendaion of some weird Austrlian who has got on my ICQ list (which doesn't really narrow thins down ) I use:

http://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/

Shrink it down and have it living at the top of the screen and it is rather handy (its really a repalcement for the task bar but I haven't sued Alt+Tab since).

What was stopping you to set the taskbar to autohide?

Pretty cool - I'll give it a whirl.

Mahjqa - I can't imagine ever not having the task bar set to autohide.....it feels like such a waste of space....

Cool.
I already have this feature with my Logitech mouse. They call it "Quick Switch Button", and it looks very similar to yours.

I like the default Alt-Tab feature of Windows. I'm pretty much used to using it. Sometimes I do miss some way to better identify the running applications because they show up with the same icon and the long titles are similar at the beginning, but that's a very rare situation. OTOH, I tried once the Alt-Tab replacement, that's part of the power toys, if I remember it right, and I hated it. It was really too much CPU demanding and extremely intrusive.

TP's utility seems to be very nice though.

For some reason my number pad won't change the numbers, I have to use the numbers across the top.
But It's pretty cool...I like it.

Not to sure how to change colors though, would someone mind explaining it it a bit more.
I guess you open the command prompt, then cd to the folder with the .exe, but from there, I am lost...

Very cool - I like it a great deal.

So simple a feature, you would think it would work that way naturally

The number pad doesn't seem to work, as GN said. Not an issue for me, the tab button that my finger is already on is quite sufficient for my tastes.

Nice work =)

the number pad really didn't work - It's been fixed, download again if you want that functionality.

As for the colors, the easiest way would be to make a shortcut to smarttab.exe, and add the parameters to its command line in its properties.
