hey all. sorry for the topic title but that is all i could think of calling it.

here is what i am doing. the company that i work for, i need to continually take pictures of our product to include in the catalog and the website. however, the lighting is crap around here. there are constant lens glares and all kinds of stuff that makes the PS work very difficult and time consuming. not a big problem but if we had some better lighting...it might help. the biggest problem is that a lot of the stuff is metal and you get that nice lens blob on the pics.

so....here is the question...recommendations on what to get as far as setting something up to take pics of our prodcuts. i can either make a space here at work or make something up at my house. I have no idea on any of this stuff so I need ya help!

I remember someone mentioning something about a lighting tent somewhere before...

Here's the thread ... Taking pics of chrome with no reflection?

Look for the links I posted to lighting tents and domes.

(Heh ... I tried fixing an old link in that thread and it went nutso. But it's at the top now. )

Steve @ Guru's posted a way to make your own softbox/tent but I don't see the topic to link you to it. I saved the text to build one and this is what he said:

If you have access to a graphics arts store, I'd invest in two things:

a pad of the largest bristol board you can get for the background (bristol board is very white and very smooth - but it will get dirty, so buy a pad and bill it to the client),
and the biggest sheet of velum you can get. Velum - like architects use. Sometimes you can find it in rolls, but hopefully you will be able at the least to get a very large sheet - 16x20, 20x24 - that range. Bang together a simple frame of strapping and staple the velum to it as taut as possible. You have your diffusor.

Another idea is to use a white umbrella in front of your light.

Depending on the size of the objects you're shooting you could also try to get hold of a large sheet of thin opal white plastic.

Wrap it to a slightly slanted cone so that you leave an opening to the top - just big enough for your lens.

Place the cone over the object and place your lights around the cone. Shoot through the opening.
