At least, a solid experience of XML (I mean solid) shouldn't hurt: thanks for the input on this, Mage, but the flexibility of xml makes it a milestone in the history of development already. As for distibuted apps and real web applications, Java web start quite impressed me on a few occasions, but after all, the application description protocol for WS, aka jnlp, is a subset of xml. As for low level programming, it will always exist, but indeed, solutions like XML and related technologies will change application design drastically in the next years. I could give a shot to XUL, but I'll keep a larger focus for now and expand on special uses of xml: the project we build at school, while simple, is quite nice, and I have a personal project which makes a surprising use of xml.
