I don't share those views: Java is still widely spread for it has other qualities than compatibility, and qualities that XML can't replace. One being it's clean syntax, very specific, object oriented, without pointers and low level tweaking. [quote] I think the OSX has this type of service, but none of the other operating systems do. [/quote] That one is wrong too to me, granted, the Java inner works are not obvious to the user, but it just takes a double click to launch a java jar file. I think XML based design needs to rely on lower level components, wether those are built using C++, Java, Delphi, Python or C# for that matter, I think it will never fully replace those technologies, but rather expand them towards recyclable, distributed, easy to build web apps. I mean: a native svg support in browsers will never be enough to cover all needs, but a strong base to build a lot of applications, the same for other xml subsets.
