Well that's it as of last Friday TechTV is no more. For those of you that don't know, for the last 5 years I've been working for TechTV, first as Senior Production Engineer of the website. (techtv.com which is now dead) and most lately as the Lead engineer of the Interactive Television Group at TechTV.

The channel was bought by Comcast and merged with G4 a small video game related network already owned by Comcast. G4's management took over and everyone at TechTV based in San Francisco (280 people) was sacked as of July 6th. There were about 80 positions opened up at G4 in L.A. so there will be some carry over but for the most part this baby I helped shaped is dead.

Anyway as one of the partners I worked with said. "Sometimes a kick in the ass is a a step up" so it's time to move on. I'm not really worried yet about finding a new job. The market isn't that bad around here and actually right now myself and my other ITV cohorts are trying to start our own company which is pretty damn cool. (Speaking of which, has anyone talked to doc lately? If he's in SF we could probably use someone with his design/technical chops.)

Anyway just had to let go there.

I quite enjoyed TechTV, it had a ton of great programming on it. After all, I've watched The Screensavers since the olden days of ZDTV (admitedly, SS was what got me watching TechTV in the first place). At least 'Invent This!' & 'X-Play (formerly Extended Play (which was much better before Morgan started co-hosting, she can't even talk about video games to save her life IMO)) are still around...

Now G4, although of the occassional episode of Judgement Day or Icons were entertaining, but the rest is just trash (again, in my opinion).

And there's no forgiving the cancellation of Conspiracies. Seriously.

definitely sad to see it go, thought of you through all this too. sounds like you've got your head up tho, good luck with the new venture!

oh man, I'm really gonna miss techTV.
used to be the only thing I watched back when I had satellite.
living in alabama, there's not alot of tech anything, that was some of the best programming out there.
I think I'll go huddle in a corner somewhere and cry.

Cat's show actually got canceled but I think she's going down to keep working on the ScreenSavers down in LA which is one of the shows that made the cut.

I will really miss TechTV... I loved Call4Help and yes, I am a BIG Leo fan! Most of the new programming kind of sucks. I really do not like it at all. To me the whole channel was gutted, the main reason why I watched was for The Screensavers, Call 4 Help, Tech News and Anime Unleashed. It is good that they still have Anime Unleashed and Robot Wars though. But the new channel kind of bites the big one.

Really sorry to hear your bad news. It can't be nice to be denied the satisfaction of your work and time in such a careless manner.
That so many others could lose their livelihoods at once, under those circumstances especially, is just cruel.

...but it's good to have a positive outlook - you know you can look back on things with a shrug and a smile.

I'm sorry to say I never saw TechTV...we don't get it overhere as gfar as I'm aware.

But still; redundancies suck arse.

I never watched TechTV, never having cable or satellite, however.

However, when I could catch it, it was enjoyable.

I have never seen it (don't know if it even made it to Germany). Good luck in the future. Sad to hear that your project has been gutted...nice to see you looking forwards, instead of dwelling in the past.
