I have been rethinking my college major quite a lot lately. Currently I have an associates in film and video production, and I would like to do something else for my BA... Not real sure what though. I am leaning towards a fine arts major, maybe a music minor? I dunno? I plan on working in the video field (I am now), and hopefully more and more in animation? I really don?t have any other career plans yet? Does anyone have any advice on majors? Possibly ones that would compliment film / animation but not limit me to any of them? |

My degree was in Secondary Education Chemistry/Physics. I taught for a couple years and now I'm a trainer for a pharmaceutical computer systems company. I guess my current job is related to my degree in a way because it still involves teaching/training. |

I'm a big advocate of majoring in something general. For me personally, I have a semester left for a double major with Political Science and Psychology. I intend on going to law school after graduation. |

There are definitely a lot of folks out there with jobs that have nothing to do with their majors. The other trainers I work with have majors in such things as occupational therapy, English, business, and even one mortuary science. One guy I work with used to be a dealer at a casino here in KC. |

Jestah: I agree with you about majoring in a general area. Often were you end up working has little or nothing to do with what you majored in. This is getting to be more and more true with people expecting to change professions three to four times during their career. |

I'll probably be majoring in Business/Advertising; though, my roots are still in the fine arts and music. I'm hoping to find a way to maybe own my own business in the fine arts or music community. But really a musician is where I want to be, but I know that a college education is too important to throw aside. |

I've never seen any good come out of passing out in college. Never. |

I got my BA in English Lit/Creative Writing (or a "BA in BS," as we used to call it). I got my MA in Classical Korean Lit, and am studying for a PhD in the same field. I currently translate (Korean -> English) for a living, and will likely continue to translate, but my ultimate goal is to get a professorship. Actually, my dream is to be a writer, but don't tell anyone--I figure maybe somewhere down the road I'll pull a Tolkien and surprise everyone. quote:

That is most definitely not true, Master Suho - you become qualified for President of the United States! |

Well shoot, if that's the only qualification then maybe I should run for president! I could run on a universal shock therapy system platform... |

my degree was actually (not making this up) a BED, Bachelor of Environmental Design, i.e. architecture. while it may not directly relate to anything i do now (primarily graphic and interactive design, at the moment working as a graphic artist for an aerospace contractor) i think the general nature of design transcends specific fields and the same sorts of rules and processes apply to architecture, graphic design, industrial design, etc. there's definitely things i learned with regards to creative thinking, processing an idea or concept, etc., that are very relevant to my everyday work. |
