Hi guys, I'm trying to simulate the front cover of a leather bound book in Photoshop, it needs inlayed metalic gold text also. I'll be d@mned if I can figure out how to do it myself, any tips??? |

That would be really helpful, thanks. I'd appreciate any RGB figures you could give me too as I'm colourblind and trying to do this for a friend who ain't so hot on a computer. |

Also when working with a 'gold' (ish) colour.. try inverting (Ctrl I) it .... you will get same value 'blue'...which is at the opposite side of the colour wheel and I find that it is sometimes easier to get darker or lighter values of gold by tweaking it a bit in 'blue'... then just Cntrl I (invert) and see what comes up. A few speckles of variants of red... also add to it. |

Hey guys. Thanks for the help so far but I'm not sure that the book above is really what I'm after. I need a more realistic leather. Think I probably need a good scan of some leather and then worry about the type afterwards. Anyone with a good scan of some leather who feels like posting a link or something would be a life-saver! |

Inlaying is easy... it's just embossed text embedded into the background with a sort of inverted emboss effect. I actually figured yours would be inlaid, but couldn't get the shading to look right on my carpetting background, so I decided I'd leave it and let you get the "set in" look on your own. |

Don't suppose anyone has an interesting 'crest' I can use that won't get me in trouble for copyright do they? ;-) |

Human shield, where did you get that font you used for the tut? I do some graphic design for my school's webteam but I can never seem to get cool fonts. |

i think the second one is better,, but try adding some highlights to the lether and darken it.. and use a outer glow on the writings and the logo color it black and mode on overlay or multiply - and increase the text saturation color--- |

OK, how about this one then... I've changed the font because I've been told it doesn't fit and the guy I've done it for isn't keen... |

Now all I have to do is get a realistic looking paper inside for the rest of the design, need to make the listings on the inside cover look like they're written for a dictionary |
