Do I have something worthwile to add? Well, let's give it a try. I've been more than an idiot myself at times.. actually, quite often:
An outbreak of flame wars kick off... people cry about how the community isn't what it used to be... individuals threaten to leave forever...
Still, I think Doc's choice to refuse to ban me, to talk about my personal experience, was a positive move as I have been able to provide good things since then. So? Violence, nerves, flame wars, etc. Happen. Everybody doesn't love everybody else, this just won't happen. But while I value the energy put into maintaining this community and keeping it live, a moderator's job has it's limits: Bugtown isn't a real town, do we need real politics and the concept of prison or punishment as well? This echoes my previous complaint about "Finglongers": wether or not they have special privileges, wether they are the ones who built the grail or not, the sole concept of "finglongers" involves a hierarchy and distinction: it was already going a bit far to me. You'll hate reading my words about it, but "I had told you this would have happened" since the day banning threats appeared in some post. Not because finglongers granted themselves longer fingers, because that particular concept implied a need for moderation among moderators, and again, an aribtrary hierarchy. Hierarchy is fine in kingdoms, corporates or the army. This place should be a playground. -------------- While Xpirex words were strong, Doc refusing to ban, Doc mentionning the way negative feelings can be turned into positive energy, Doc saying play is important contrast with the current ambient and situation. And this really makes me sad: while I am aware of my own past mistakes, I don't know what dragged some regulars away exactly so I can't make a connection between my own presence and other people's position about the Asylum, up to you to enlight me if you please, but... What Michael said sounds perfectly right to me and perfectly depicts what has been "lost" somehow: this place is about enjoying oneself, creativity and webdesign, so the conflict resolution method suggested (let it be and close it if it really spoils the view) just sounds perfect. About the "legality" of all this, well... we ALL agreed when signing up that Doc couldn't be liable for our own individual idiocies, and in a case like this, I strongly believe a real court would take this set of rules seriously, Doc is not liable for Xpirex insulting Lacuna, and justice and law are none of my business, punishment neither. In this place, trying to make a point and sharing useful things is my business, so I am all for giving Xpirex his privileges back and letting him consider this as a warning.
