Are you going to have the banner printed by a professional printer or are you trying to create it on your computers printer?

If you will have a professional printer produce the banner, you should ask the printer what resolution and what file formats they are capable of receiving. Probably somethin on the order of 40 to 80 lines per inch would be sufficient. It also depends to a certain degree on how clos the people vieing the banner will be. If this is a banner for a street display where people will be driving past you won't need as much resolution as if they can walk right up to it and look at it.

Your best bet is to talk to the printer and find out what their specifications are.
