What software do you use for the following things:

OS: Mac OSX
Browser: Safari
E-mail Client: Mail
Chat Client: Proteus
Word Processor: Word 2004
HTML Coding: Dreamweaver MX
Image Manipulation: Photoshop 7.0
FTP: Cute FTP

Feel free to add any extras.

For some odd reason I pride myself on owning all of my own software. I find that to be a rarity among todays users.

Well, unlike most people, I happen to be a real big fan of Microsoft products, particularly their Office suite. I just bought Offfice 2004 for my new computer and found it to be fantastic. If you don't like Microsoft though, there are other good options. Open Office & Wordperfect are two popular alternatives. If you have you're an Apple user, Appleworks 6 is good too.

The choice of word processor would depend a lot upon what you need. LIke Jestah said, Open Office is a good and free pacakge similair to Office. If you only need something to create text files/documents, and don't need the spreadsheets or other programs that follow, a complete package like that might be over kill.

My solution to that is to mostly use plain text files, and those times I need to style the document I use Latex to create .pdf files. Latex takes a litle while to get used to using (since it is a markup language that is used in a plain text file and then the text file is processed to create the .pdf file), but once you've used it for awhile it is as easy as using Word imo.

Actually, In the old table based stuff, I used to use DW quite a bit. A lot of business's, advertising agencies and internet companies require that one knows it. I didn't want that to hold me back from a job or anything. Now that I've switched to all css layouts I use it less often, mostly notepad2. Even though DWMX 2004 was supposed to be huge in CSS support, it still has a ways to go. The redering engine is horrible.

But one time I did this site for a company in all css. It worked on IE 5.5, 6, mozilla firefox, netcapes 6,7. But "It didn't look right in dreamweaver" and they wanted to update it in contribute. So I had to actually change it to a table based layout and make it render right in dreamweaver. *sigh* Some people will never see the light. Unfortunatly the outside world sometimes is not as concerned with web standards....

but enough rant...

Well I have been using Adobe GoLive CS now for about 6 months now, it's a landmark improvement and I simply love, its made my life so much easyer.

Granted I run it on window, from the sounds of it, there are some stability problems on the Mac.) Under WinXP, I have only crashed it once in 6 months and that was my mostly my fault. It seams to generate decent code when used correctly, and the CSS interface is nice.

An the Adobe Interface is a big plus, I didn't even have to read the manual to understand, 70% of the application. I seam to have a part of my brain missing when it comes to learning Macromedia interfaces, I wish I knew what but I pickup Dreamweaver, or Fireworks I am complete lost it's just weird. I did finally get the hang of Flash MX, (Thou I can't figure out how could draw anything remotely complex with it. I have tried and just find it frustrating.)

it was; I've used several dozen graphic applications for nearly 20 years now;
