Whenever I design a website and have an image with the same Hex Code as the background, it will often show a slightly different color for the image than the background.

Is this because I'm making the image with Photoshop, or is it another reason?

Note: the difference is more noticeable on Mozilla Firefox, and non-IE browsers.

What image file format do you use ?
On contrary, I've noticed that IE6 have a buggy support of PNG images and alters their colors.

BTW, have you done some screenshots in various browsers and checked the HEX code they display ?

There is also an issue when saving in compressed format. JPEGs have done this too me on more than one occasion. Photoshop tends to choose a websafe color over the actual color of the background. Save image with higher image quality like Maximum and see if that helps. Better yet if you can save as gif or MAYBE png (haven't used much) and use a transparent background. You shouldn't have anthing to worry about.

Off and on I run into the same problem.

I have been using Eyedropper to match the color from the image with the color-code in the HTML. Works great 95% of the time.
It is a free little app and here is the link ...

Maybe it will solve some of your problems.

I use JPEG and GIF, because Photoshop doesn't seem to optimize PNG as well as GIF.

It's the same for JPEG and GIF, it does it for both.

I use the exact same hex code for both and it looks different regardless.

It does appear to be an issue with 16 bit, because if I go to 32 bit, it appears normal.

If it`s only on your monitor, maybe check your color profiles and make sure the monitor and PS are using the same one.
If in on other boxes, well, that`s gonna happen. You have no control over your audience. The best way to avoid it is to make it a non-issue by using transparency whenever possible.

Your windows and your photoshop use different color profiles as it seems. Try to view one image in Photoshop and then in the default Windows image viewer. If you notice differences then it is it. Therefore as docilebob said, match the color profiles of your system with that of your PS . Here it would be good to calibrate your monitor and create a custom profile and using that... but here we have to speak about working conditions etc.

Just match them. I use the default profile of my brand new monitor (yet).
