Do you ever have one of those moments on the web when you discover a whole new "sub world" of stuff you have been looking for for a long time - and it's really deep and rich and full of things you are really interested in? Say you stumble across some site, or click on someone's sig to discover a forum about all the things you really like doing.

Needless to say that's what happened to me today, and I'm floored at the amazing things going on here. It's an honor to join up here and I look forward to posting cool things myself to the group...

Well, the reason that this forum is so successful, as pointed out in a Digital Web Magazine article I read before I signed up (though, I had been here about 6 times prior to that--not understanding it)

As the article says:

to create a community that was based solely off of user input and experience. Nothing happens on that site that isn't 99% user-input.

It is the ideal way to run a forum. And how any good forum should be run.

Yeah; I noticed that too when I first came here. I found it off of the raytracer at http://www.slimeland.com/, and was floored by the subsequent stuff I saw, especially when referred to the 256b JS contests. It seems I'm a late-comer in the JS arena, but I'm enjoying myself greatly.

from the article:
The final punishing blow that the Asylum hands to all the rest of the message-board-as-websites out there is that Doc trusts the users with so much until they've proven him wrong in that. He's a humanitarian, and that theme sets the tone for the rest of the interaction. It is important to note that no one has ever been removed from the board. Ever. That speaks volumes about his standards, and the standards set by the user base itself.

Twitch wrote the article in sept 2001 and it still goes....
The sad thing is Doc not an active part in this community any more and he is missed.

I agree - this is a fantastic forum.

It is rich with knowledge and ideas, and I can see no limit to how much I can learn from its members/administrators. The sheer range and variety of the discussions is complimented by the willingness of members to help eachother out or to debate the most intriguing madness.....

It's full of little "eureka" moments!
