looks more like a gaming clan logo. I'm not even sure what MetaVirus is by reading your site. Maybe it is a gaming clan.

I like the A and the V thing you got going on in the BB. Maybe there's some way you can join the M and the V. Which i realize that's what you got going on in the logo now but all i'm thinking is Quake II vs Quake V.

Game logos usually utilize type rather than icons (e.g., the "Age of..." games, Rise of Nations, Half-Life, Counter-Strike, DOOM.) The Quake series is an uncommon exception.

I never noticed the similarity with Quake's "ring," however, the two logos are too different for the MetaVirus logo to be construed as "leeching off the success" of the Quake series. I'm not sure what you're getting at with reference to Quake.

In case, some of you want to analyze the logo from a message-perspective, here's some background: MetaVirus was established in early 2003 intending to promote rationality by fostering a community based upon the idea that scientific and rational inquiry are keys to opening doors to new worlds of knowledge, which possess great potential for exploration and governance. The meaning of the MetaVirus logo is targeted towards a specific audience that are involved with memetic sciences, Neo-Darwinian philosophy, and General Semantics. The logo is inspired by the phrase "virus of the mind" (or simply "mind-virus.")

I by no means meant that you have copied the design of Quake, let alone try to use it's success for your gain. I'm just saying that without that detailed background, I used my relational mind and assumed the logo of yours that i saw looked like something i saw before, that being the Quake logo. Thus, I assumed I was looking at a gaming site.
The logo neither looks like a mind nor a virus, but than again inspiration can come from anywhere and take on many meanings and interpretations.

Is it a good logo, heck yeah.

Does it make sense (to me one person uneducated in MV)? Not exactly.
Add that brief description and I wouldn't have questioned it because it's a subject I know nothing about.

Thanks for your comments, MalFunkShun.

Use your imagination and you'll see that the "V" (the MetaVirus) is piercing the center of the brain (the Left and Right brains.)

Well there is something I don't like about the negitive space inside the the circle. I don't know why exactly what, just a feeling. Perhaps it seam to distract too much from the V.

According to your quazi-design brief, You might consider making the circle a little more brain like, more oblong and with perhap noticeabel loobs or halfs . Perhaps something along these lines.

Good logo or not, it's hard to tell without knowing what you want accomplish with the logo. Will it be a stand alone idenifier of the brand, used on and identy system, (ie, letterhead, envelope, and cards), as a promotional tool ie. teeshirts etc..., or simply design fluff.

It's a final logo, jstuartj. No need to alter the shape or the whitespace: the message is clear to my audience. Altering its form would negatively affect the harmony/balance it has with itself and the typographic elements of the logo. I'm receptive to message-oriented comments, however, I started this thread desiring technical critiques devoid of branding concerns.

Good thing I received both.
