I've been meaning to ask this question a long long time ago but reserved it in hopes that I would find a solution myself. To much dispear the answer has yet to come to me so I ask everyone here.... How do you avoid washed out colors?

I have done numerous sites over the past 5 years and each time I'm like yeah this color scheme is great. But then I start browsing other sites and when i refer back to mine it looks like it's been though the wash too many times.

Is there a method with hex that gives bright colors? I have noticed that colors with a (2)(2)(2) address do really well; example 0xFFEE00 or 0x2211EE.

So before I go off and give my other ideas I hand you the microphone and see what your ideas are.

Just choose brighter colours? If you're starting with a background or graphic, just try making it brighter first and test with website layout. You can always desaturate later.

I use a program called Pixeur to help me choose or to quickly see what colours others have chosen:
