Has anyone seen this site?
http://www.cooltext.com/
Look at the texture section. Looks like most if not all textures are from Doc's site.

We can probably work something out, I don't do backgrounds for a living, I do web design.

just a quick quote - I have not looked to see if that site was commercial or not.

so long,

Still tho', to me at least, it has a bit of smell to it.

CoolText.com, and its advertisers

Maybe a bit of a fine line here... and surely open for debate but if it's 'free' for the user...
yet the 'owner' of the site makes bucks via the advertisers... how does that work?

That's probably the 'smell' I mentioned. =)

Well at least Doc should get credit for creating the backgrounds.

Let's see...no acknowledgement, in fact they basically say that this is their work, please don't rip it

The work is classic Doc, and I know alot of these textures well. The site, however, I would class as commercial, becuase it does recieve funds from advertisers, and they list one of their possible contact questions as 'Cooltext.com business'.

*Skaarjj gives this his 'definatly a rip' stamp of disapproval*

doc's backgrounds have been spread all over the net for years now without proper credit.

I saw many of Doc's backgrounds long before I found Ozones in fact.

~shrug~

That site, commercial? That's a stretch for sure.

We could argue the finer points of copyright and so on for weeks, but bottom line is - this has been the situation with Doc's backgrounds for as long as Doc has had his backgrounds posted, and I doubt that most of the people who post them even know who's they are anyway.

No biggee....

Indeed, I see many Doc's textures used all over the place. Some have even made it a demo game in a Macromedia Director book I picked up from the library one day. Others have been used in Winamp skins and I've seen countless websites using them and offering them for download.

A few years ago some guy ripped the doc's background textures pages in full, and just changed the copyrights, which he got a little annoyed about. However, as far as the odd texture turning up here and there, there's just too many sites with them to even bother anymore.
