ok i dont really know if anybody knows or caress abouut this, nor do i care but people often ask me to either help them with a link that wont work beacause its meant to open in a new window and they have an ad blocker or that they want ads on the page to come up without being blocked by the blocker
well for those wondering this is the answer to both, ad blockers genrally only block popups while the page is loading
having trouble with a link that wont open? just wait for tha page(including images and stuff) then click the link(without clicking anything before it had finished loading)
of if you want your popups to show even for users with blockers simply put it in onload=doPopups()

just so ya know

There are some specific rules regarding how popups are blocked. These rules are followed by the "main" popup blockers (aka Search Toolbars) including those from Yahoo and Google. These rules are very similar to those used by the SP2 security update for XP that is being discussed in the media at present.

A good FAQ on the subject is kept with Google as part of their help for the GoogleBar:
http://toolbar.google.com/popup_help.html

Clicking a link that opens a single "popup" window will not be blocked. Clicking a link that opens more than one "popup" window (or trying to open a "popup" window onload) will fail (assuming the blocker is set up correctly and the domain is not in a "white list").

I believe a lot of blockers also work on the premise that if the popup was user instigated (i.e. clicking on a link), it will work, but if it was code-instigated without any user interaction, it would block it.
