Hey, I have some more recent stuff. Not of the best quality, but I've been trying to experiment a bit. Remove myself from the style I was drawing in previously, not totally, but enough to improve. Hopefully I succeeded.
Anyways, here they are. Crits and comments would be (immensly) appreciated!
I did realize that I've been drawing far too many girls, and fallen out of practice drawing men. This probably happened because about half a year ago I realized I couldn't draw a girl to save my life. So I practiced...etcetera. Then I just realized they're more fun to draw. Ha! Anyways. Yeah.
Done (loosely) from reference. Mostly, I was using the references to improve my ability to draw clothing.
And some pictures done with goauche and a permanent marker.
Random computer art. Done today. I found some brushes in PS that I liked, finally.
And pencil stuff. The light really fucked up on me taking some of the pictures (no camera), so the quality isn't too great on some of these.
Anyways, C&C would be appreciated. Mostly the critiques part. In fact, if you feel like it, I'd appreciate being torn apart, limb from limb, until their's nothing left of me.
Cheers.

If I had any talent at all in drawing I would be able to offer a more constructive crit',,,,,,
but I haven't,,,,I can say what I feel though,,,,,ok?
Most, if not all the work shown here looks half finished, with the possible exception of the first one (hmmm1)
You have a talent for drawing, of that I have no doubt. I would love to see you take a piece of work as far as you can, even finish it. You could save the developmental steps as seperate images for reference, which would be really useful as well.
You seem to like drawing and then scanning right? Once you have an image you are reasonably happy with (as a base to build on) would you feel comfortable trying to finish it in photoshop, or do you prefer to finish it on paper?
Either way let's see you take a drawing as far as it will go. Posting the progression here stage by stage would be a way to take it to the next level I think.
I would love to see colour, skin tones, textures added in photoshop and finished in PS too come to think of it. I could possibly be of more help there than I am here.
I think your skill level in PS is at least equivalant to mine if not a lot better, so this should not pose a problem for you.
As you know (I think) Amerasu has some great guidelines on techniques in PS for drawing that I believe would help here too.
I feel I'm starting to ramble now so I'll close with this thought. (??????) Ooooo that was a nice thought

Okay. I was told I only use light values, and that it looks like i'm "playing safe."
Anyways. I'm going to finish this one. As soon as I stop procrastinating on summer-work and read Atlas Shrugged. Yay.
anyways. c&c appreciated.
(ach: those stitches/staples on her torso look like shit. i'll make them better whenever I next work on it.)

From what I have seen of your work cfb, to me it is all good, and you are where you are suposed to be.
You have a natural talent that seems to flow uninhibited from within.
This style has always been pleasing to me, much the same way I enjoy drawing
and painting. It is an inborn expression that will only become more refined only if that is the style you want to persue.
For now the quick expressive gestures will help you to see quickly form, movement, energy
and light.
Don't worry too much about that " finished look", that 's what cameras are for.
Persue this path only till you feel the need to take the turn in the road.
Good work.
cheers,

awesome stuff. i like the angles and the movement you're capturing in the clothes, etc. and YEAH the hand!
just a thought, though .. i don't know all your work or what your themes are, but i'd love to see what u can do with subjects that are a little less comic book/fantasy perfect. that is, i'd like to see how u would deal with expressing a broader range of weight and depth and mood...
for that reason, my favourites of the stuff you've posted are the ones that look like guys ... (third in the b&w 'PS brushes' group and the second one posted 09/01/04 - bald/peachy coloured)

Thank you all
kromaZ: the reason I'm going to push towards "finished" work is because it will speed improvement. If I'm no longer allowed to use vague lines, or collections of lines, to imply shape, then I'm forced to be much more exact; to more effectivly utilize references, etcetera.
LaSun: what kind of subjects that aren't "fantasy/comic book" (ish). My impression, at least when I'm drawing, is slightly whimsical. Maybe. But thank you.
eyezaer: nope. i guess i should. could you suggest one? (something not geocities or angelfire, i mean...(free hosting, preferably)).

Well, for hosting, 50megs isn't bad. It's what I've been using for a while, although I now pay for my site.
Your art is very distinctive without being unreal or cartoony, I like that. Good job on the catwoman.
As opposed to what LaSun suggested (more "realistic" images perhaps), I'd be interested in seeing you take something like the fourth image (gouache and marker) and really make it an abstract with almost psychedelic leanings. That's what I think of at least when I see your work like that.
Humm.. should have given a link to 50megs - http://www.50megs.com The only thing is that you can't ftp in unless you have a paid account, but using their file manager (looks like windows explorer) it's easy to upload stuff.

I would love to see you try a more anime/comic-book-style look.
With the lines and shading done like Skottie Young's art 1 2
but with blacker lines and more variations in line widths and your own style for the rest.
Your art has a distinctly sketchy feel to it, and the excess lines hide the good art behind them.
PS try drawing some action scenes.
Great work, keep it up. And if you're not a member of http://www.ledheavy.com/forum and http://www.penciljack.com head over and sign up.
