Been having problems getting Adobe Distiller to distill files to PDF via Quark 6.

I don't want to use the built-in PDF'er, I need to use Distiller but it doesn't seem to set up properly. I think I select all the right options but it doesn't work.

I also can't find any web resources on the subject.

Can anyone help?

Could you be more specfic, what is happening?

Does the file get to Acrobat, if so what is the error message or do get that far and isn't finding Acrobat Distiller. The standard build in set ups should work find. Sometimes you do have to map the font directory under preferances. So make sure Acrobat can find it's default fonts, On windows and os9 they are located in Acrobat install folder (Acrobat/Resource/Fonts). It can help to also map the path to you systems font directory just to be safe.

I assume you are on mac, Download and install the Acrobat PPD for adobe's website, and make sure it is selected in the print dialog.

Under windows Acrobat installs as a Printer, now I'm don't use 0SX, so I can be sure but I would guess Acrobat install in a similer under 0SX. On windows there is a utility application that monitors the in/out box called acrotray.exe, the is likely something simlar on Mac you may need it installed as well.

If spooling to Quark 6 directly doesn't work file as an EPS or Print to a File using say a Adobe's Postscript driver and Acrobat PPD and saving it or drag in drop it into Acrobats In box.

Hi.

Sorry for not being specific enough. The problem is I don't think Quark 6 and Distiller are linking up at all, even though, as far as I'm aware, I select the 'Acrobat Distiller' printer description from the printer list.

I have been using the print to file method.

The built in Quark PDF'er produces enormous files. To test if Distiller works, I opened distiller and selected the highest compression level, which should have reduced all the images to screen resolution. It didn't work.

No error seems to come up in the Distiller window, but it won't even open and convert .ps files. Perhaps outputting as an EPS then distilling will work, but that's fiddly.

I've found no comprehensive instructions on line about setting this up, but finding and installing a PostScript printer would be a start, although I was under the impression it was already installed. I'll check it again.

I'll have to spend more time at it, I reckon.

One thing the built in Quark 6 pdf is not Adobe Distiller it is a third party generator, called JAWS so adjusting the acrobat preferance would have no effect when generating a PDF directly from with in Acrobat..

What happens if you drag and drop the .ps file on distiller.

I guess I would try deleteing distiller and reinstalling.

OK, this time I found out that Quark 6.0 doesn't link to distiller. Quark 6.1 update does it, but I haven't installed that.

So this time, I output the Quark file as a PostScript file and distilled it in distiller. Now the problem is that no matter what Job Option I select, the file size remains the same. So it looks as if there's some issues with Distiller on top of the problems with Quark's built-in PDF'er.

Any ideas?
